No surprises there.

(72 posts)They are both backing out of their agreements to debate because they are both pathetic and flawed candidates.

Not so sure their reluctance revolves around Bernie but I'm sure its a factor.

(11,417 posts)anything new in months. He is out of money and needs all the free air time he can get. Why should Hillary do his work for him?
Tomorrow he will be at a rally in Santa Maria, CA, where I live. I am not going of course but I'll bet I could give his stump speach for him.
No body but no body is afraid of Bernie.
He lost the primary.
80% of his people will be voting for Hillary in the general.
The rest can't sit on their asses and make up more conspiricy theories about why he didn't win.
Hillary will be the 45th President and first female President.

(58,112 posts)Whoops, my bad this is from 2008 when Hillary had different beliefs regarding the Presidency being the most important job in the world, the toughest job in the world and that you should be willing to campaign for every vote and debate anytime, anywhere.
Thanks for the thread, Scuba.
For some people, hell would be a place where they are held to their word.

(6,965 posts)Especially since she, and not Bernie Sanders, is about ready to clinch the Dem nomination for POTUS.
lagomorph777
(30,613 posts)On the other hand, she is starting from zero with Trump, and her record is finally coming to light, the GE is not a realistic possibility for her. So, not POTUS, not relevant.

(660 posts)Trump will want to control the funds. He will state that he needs to vet the women's groups that receive the funds because he can't have any abortion providers, etc. The problem is that if Trump is permitted to control the funds, he will probably steal them. Or, what is the same thing, he will give the funds to people associated with his cause in exchange for their political support.
Several months ago, Trump skipped a debate with the explanation that he wanted to raise funds for veterans. As I understand it, some or all of that money still hasn't been distributed, and it's been months.
If Sanders agrees to Trump's terms, Sanders will be dependent upon Trump to properly handle the funds. That will be a huge mistake and it will place Sanders in a position that will almost certainly lead to embarrassment, or worse. And, if Sanders ever complains, he will again be seen to be complaining from a submissive position. Trump will use every opportunity to encourage the public to see that HE is in control and that Sanders is just along for the ride. Trump is very conscious of how he looks vis-a-vis everyone else around him. Sanders needs to steer clear of any situations that provide Trump with more control because Trump will abuse it every time. He's a con man. It's what he does.

(660 posts)Before Trump backed out, Bernie should have turned the situation around by dictating terms to Trump. Anyone who deals with Trump must never allow himself to be placed in a submissive role waiting for Trump. Sanders should have assumed a dominant posture and then, when Trump backed out, call Trump a coward.

(22,084 posts)afraid to debate him yet again. To what end?
She is the nominee. He is the runner up in a two person race. It's over.

(72 posts)She came out with the edge in some, they tied some, and there were a couple that Bernie looked much stronger. If you think she wiped the floor in all of them than you are incredibly biased.

(22,084 posts)she is an excellent, knowledgeable debater. He is not. He comes off extremely irritable and poor temperament. His many gestures are distracting and cover what he is trying to say.
ThirdWayToTheHighway
(72 posts)You can say what you want, but a majority of the focus groups and every single poll (Not scientific, but the focus groups are) disagree with you. Hillary also made many rude gestures/faces and many times had an awful tone. Her constant interrupting and lying were pretty bad in some debates too. I'm willing to admit that there were some debates that Bernie missed some big opportunities and I felt Clinton had the slight edge for viewers that were uninformed coming in because of it, and in some debates they pretty much tied, but there were also some (Look at the Michigan debate) where Clinton got steamrolled. Keep living in your bubble of blissful ignorance though.

(12,689 posts)And why should she be scared? Is Sanders planning to tackle her or something?
ThirdWayToTheHighway
(72 posts)and now she is backing out. She is scared to be confronted with all of her lies about the emails and Bernie getting the edge in California. If this were wrapped up she would show some integrity, follow through with her agreement, and move on to win the nomination. If you want to ignore the facts that's your choice.
KingFlorez
(12,689 posts)And that is what Sanders is, a loser. Nothing but a loser. I'll leave it at that.
ThirdWayToTheHighway
(72 posts)You could tell me that that quote came from Donald Trump and I would believe you. Feel free to ignore her lack of integrity if you like, but it reflects poorly upon you and the party.

(72 posts)A waste of time too? Should politicians not show some integrity and hold up their end of a bargain? Hillary wanted more debates, and in order to get them she agreed to one this month. Now she is backing out.

(10,533 posts)There is no point in having a presidential debate with someone who won't be the nominee of his party. I know a lot of you are praying for an indictment but even if that happens (which it won't) there is no upside to a debate with the runner-up at this point. It changes nothing.
Frankly this whole fake-Trump-debate debacle makes Bernie look like a fool desperate to extend his shelf life as a candidate. It just gave Trump more press attention which he used to mock Bernie as irrelevant and shit on Hillary and the Democratic Party in general.
