2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBarney Frank on MSNBC Just Now:
Barney Frank let it be known that he will not be harassed into submission by the Sanders' campaign. Not only did he aggressively fight back against the notion that he couldn't be impartial in adjudicating the rules (including explaining the very limited role the rules committee holds), he let fly a damning criticism of Bernie.
It was, if you pardon my paraphrasing, "Senator Sanders didn't realize black votes matter."
Ouch. Burn.

(1,000 posts)He cares a great deal about voting rights, about jobs, about the minimum wage, about the racist prison system that supports HRC, and about the thousands of predatory loans that ruined so many lives. For his entire career he has been a strong fighter and supporter of equal rights. If the message didn't reach the vast majority of Black voters, I am sorry for them. Maybe they need to listen to Nina Turner or Keith Ellison and many other Bernie supporters.
I don't deny anyone the right to support the candidate of their choice, or to be loyal to one they have known over the years. But that doesn't mean they (or you) has to deny Bernie his much deserved record on civil rights
this may help you understand what you refuse to acknowledge:

Frank didn't call anyone racist just like NO ONE has called Sanders a racist. What Frank did is very similar to what hundreds of other people have done which is to note that Hillary Clinton is winning the minority vote by a West Virginia mile and that one of the reasons for that is that Sanders has, for reasons that few understand, never put forth the outreach to minority communities to secure our votes.
Now, you and I both know this will mean absolutely NOTHING to these folks that love to shriek "racism!111one" anytime anyone attempts to discuss the racial elements in this race but it is what it is.

(22,031 posts)Congressman Frank has served his country and his constituency very well. He has fought the progressive and Democratic fight effectively and fearlessly. While he may now be employed by an entity that many of us detest, we don't know a thing about what he does there.
It's disappointing to hear the vehemence directed at someone who has fought the good fight. As an analogy, let me offer this. My father worked as a chemical engineer in the paper industry. During the last 25 years of his career, his primary focus was on developing and implementing technologies that would drastically reduce the effluence from paper mills. Obviously, this is good for the environment. One time, I chided him for working "for the Man" since he was employed by major corporations. He responded that he was doing good work from inside the belly of the beast and besides, the money was better.
The heightened emotions of the Democratic Primary have been, at times, quite acrid. For me, Congressman Frank gets the benefit of the doubt.
mmonk
(52,589 posts)Why shouldn't he be entitled to the same level of compensation? That's the free market at work.
However, my real point is that we don't know how Congressman Frank comports himself in his position at Signature Bank. Perhaps he argues the same views and attitudes that he masterly employed in the US House of Representatives against Republicans. As a Board Member, he has a say and a vote on all issues that come before that Board of Directors. Please remember that during much of his tenure in Congress, he was in the political minority and as an openly gay politician, he was subjected to public abuse yet he never shied away from fighting for the Democratic side.
So, in the absence of evidence that he is acting against the policies and views he has held for decades, he gets my support.

(47,803 posts)Nor is Bernie racially apathetic. Nor are his supporters.
BootinUp
(47,141 posts)Because neither Barney Frank nor I suggested anything along that line. On the other hand, demographics played a very large part of determining the outcome. The bottom line is people pick the candidate they feel identifies most closely with their views and supports thier issues.
Barney Franks main point in the interview was that the process for the nomination and the party platform and the rules committee was fair. He also said he favored more primaries over caucuses, and that he was not opposed to eliminating superdelegates.

My point stands as stated. No one has to agree with Barney or anyone else literally ever and yes you will get unending push back and down right mutiny when insisting on at least partially representing what the opposition is 100% devoted to, you want the the phony, only expanding to right fake big tent then a bunch will be kicking and screaming the whole way because that is the only option we effectively have.

TimPlo
(443 posts)Because it really screams out someone who had no clue. If actually read the full interview you would understand that NY Daily News board did not know difference between the Dept of Treasure and Federal Reserved. And then go on to say Sanders did not know about Dodd-Frank. It is so funny that low information people repeat talking points for so long.
Tortmaster
(382 posts)And The New York Daily News interview is there, forever, for the world to see. Here's a snippet:
Daily News: Okay. Well, let's assume that you're correct on that point. How do you go about doing it?
Sanders: How you go about doing it is having legislation passed, or giving the authority to the secretary of treasury to determine, under Dodd-Frank, that these banks are a danger to the economy over the problem of too-big-to-fail.
Daily News: But do you think that the Fed, now, has that authority?
Sanders: Well, I don't know if the Fed has it. But I think the administration can have it.

Sanders: Well, you do have authority under the Dodd-Frank legislation to do that, make that determination.
Daily News: You do, just by Federal Reserve fiat, you do?
Sanders: Yeah. Well, I believe you do.
It gets funnier after that. I especially liked the Editorial Board question: "Do you believe or do you know?" That was very embarrassing for the Senator.
