The recently released State Department inspector general report, which found Hillary Clinton broke government rules with her personal email use, increases "the likelihood and pressure" for the Justice Department to pursue criminal charges, an intelligence source familiar with the FBI investigation told Fox News.
"It is very harmful to her and increases the likelihood and pressure on DOJ to indict," said the source, who was not authorized to speak on the record. "[The IG report] is not evidence in itself, but it clears up confusion [about] Department of State rules and makes the IG a witness, and the people they interviewed, to her computer antics being done without permission."
The ongoing FBI criminal probe -- investigating Clinton's emails practices as secretary of state -- is focused on whether the more than 2,100 classified emails discovered on her server constitute a violation of federal code, including the Espionage Acts 18 USC 793, known as the "gross negligence" statute. FBI Director James Comey plans to make a recommendation based on the evidence, and if the findings merit criminal charges, the decision to prosecute ultimately rests with Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
The 83-page inspector general's report, released last week, concluded that Clinton and her team consistently broke government rules for email and record-keeping. The decision to use a personal, unsecured server exclusively for government business had the effect of moving classified information outside secure government channels.
Fox News first reported in November 2015 that another statute, 18 USC 1001, also known as the "false statements statute," was under FBI consideration. This section pertains to "materially false" statements given either in writing, orally or through a third party to a federal officer. Each felony violation is subject to five years in prison.
" The) report will be useful as rebuttal, potential evidence in 18 USC 1001 charges and establishing aspects of 18 USC 793," the source said...

Fox News, unfortunately, but an interesting leak nonetheless.

(154,021 posts)same pattern as 2003, Liberals were extremely well informed, due to liberal outlets covering the shit, while conservative ones, such as Fox were not. This time around it is a role reversal. Also, Herridge got sources, Her reporting has become the guide of what is coming. She is also an award winning journalist. I mean that, If I see a new nugget in a story she wrote, it tends to appear in one form or another on Reuters and AP and even CNN fairly soon.
Hell some of her pieces have been followed by NYT and WAPO as well.
As I asked you this morning, do you think this hyper partisan media that tries to protect one side or the other is healthy in a democracy? Take all the time you need to answer that question.

(154,021 posts)you understanding how this environment where automatically you dismiss the press from the other side... would surprise me
But as I posted this morning, partisans are what they are. You are one.
I prefer to read and evaluate the information and so far, when her reporting is picked up, well I guess AP and CNN and the rest are also part of the VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY. So is the FBI, and of course Secretary Kerry.
Politics is not unlike religion, In fact, it works the same way in the brain. So all I can do is shake my head, Trust me, partisans on the other side consider Rachel Maddow a traitor to the American people who's sources are just as reliable.
Alas it is wha it is. Myself I do not like Maddow but that is becuase a 7 figure payday, has really made her very non reliable and I do not consider MSNBC to be anything but very slanted commentary at this point.
That said, I am not surprised you cannot see how this is a problem... you and your pals are in their information bunkers, while the other side in theirs. At this point, neither shares common information, maybe teh calendar is it. And perhaps not even values. Yup that is very healthy.

(10,123 posts)QUESTION: Isnt the question of whether or not the Secretary former Secretary Clinton would have violated the law a matter for the FBI investigation to decide whether theyre going to bring any charges ultimately for the judicial process?
MR TONER: Well, there are other yeah, I mean, there are other there are other thank you for there are other reviews out there that we cant speak to, but legitimate or a legitimate plan.
When you look at the Inspector General for the State Department's report,
https://oig.state.gov/system/files/esp-16-03.pdf
it's more concerned with Records and procedures, etc. It did not seem to go into great depth on the classified material.
http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2016/05/257733.htm
However, I think its important to underscore that the OIG itself says that this report is not a report on the security of any secretarys email systems, including Secretary Clintons. There are no findings about the security of Secretary Clintons email system. The hacking email that is referenced includes language to the effect that the hack was not successful. Thats just from the email that it cited. But beyond that theres no finding one way or the other about the security.
So "there are other reviews out there" probably refers to the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community's report that we haven't seen yet and maybe the House and Senate committee reviews.
I suspect we'll hear from the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community fairly soon and I expect the public and media reaction to it will be worse than the IG of the State Department's report. That will further enhance the chances of indictment.

Saying College kids are just lazy and want stuff given to them, they should pull them selves up by the boot straps. Odd how HRC people more closely act like GOP yet are ones who say Sanders are Right Wingers.

(154,021 posts)the WAPO was a third rate paper in 1971... they rode that Pullitzer for decades. Murdoch's sons. want FOX to become a respected news source outside of RW land... there is an internal fight over that. So somebody gave her free rein. Imagine what would happen if she got not a Pullitzer, this is TV after all, but a major award for this reporting? It will be a way to slowly transform FNC from a partisan hack house to something respected.

(46,585 posts)Former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor-turned-whistleblower Edward Snowden has criticized the double standards of the United States' authorities since US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's email controversy has not led to any form of prosecution unlike his instance of the classification rules violation.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) "Break classification rules for the public's benefit, and you could be exiled. Do it for personal benefit, and you could be President," Snowden wrote on his official Twitter account on Wednesday.
Former US Secretary of State and Democratic party front-runner Clinton has been using a private email server for work-related matters, including for those classified. An investigation into the matter revealed that Clinton shared more than 100 emails about highly classified US government programs and other sensitive information via her unsecured communications in breach of the established rules. The findings have prompted the FBI to open its own investigation into the matter.
Snowden, who is currently residing in Russia, is wanted in the United States on charges of espionage and theft of government property. His revelations could cost him as much as 30 years in prison.
