WASHINGTON -- Sen. Bernie Sanders and his wife, following pressure from Democratic presidential campaign rival Hillary Clinton, released their full 2014 federal tax return on Friday, showing a combined income of more than $205,000.
Sanders released summaries of the couple's 2014 federal and state returns in June. Fridays release included the federal return's attached schedules and offered more background on the couples finances, including charitable gifts of $8,350. Sanders pledged during Thursday's heated debate with Clinton to release earlier returns at a later date.
Sanders and his wife, Jane, paid $27,653 in federal income taxes and $7,903 in Vermont income taxes in 2014. Their income is largely derived from Sanders Senate salary of $174,000 and Social Security benefits.
Sanders has been under pressure for weeks to release his returns. Clinton raised the issue during the debate to counter questions about why she wont release transcripts of her paid speeches to Goldman Sachs. Clinton received $675,000 for speeches to the company in 2013, according to her own disclosure.

Anyone who claims that Sanders has yet to release schedules or inventories is either uninformed or an intentional liar. There is a group on this site that is in a strange state of denial regarding Sanders and his 2104 tax returns, despite having been informed of the truth.

(2,039 posts)2014 is not 2015 and certainly not the years prior to 2014. Why can't he produce those returns?? Its really pretty easy to get transcripts for the years 2011, 2012 and 2015. You just sign a form 4506-T and give it to the press. Then they can go to the IRS and get the transcripts themselves.

Bernie and Donald are hiding theirs. Only tax returns are traditionally released, not transcripts. You don't change the rules in the middle of an election.
-none
(1,884 posts)And speaking of rules, they were changed in Nevada to shut out Sanders.
Why won't Hillary let the rest of us know what she told the banksters and Goldman Sachs? For $250,000 to $350,000 a pop, what is so secretive about those speeches that Hillary doesn't want us to know?
itsrobert
(14,157 posts)Lucky for Hillary, Sander's delegates weren't registered Democrats and could not be seated. The vote of the people was protected, Sanders could not overturn the Nevada vote.
-none
(1,884 posts)Before most of the Bernie supporters were scheduled to show up?
itsrobert
(14,157 posts)Sanders supporters tried to change the rules. The Rules were clarified by a committee of Hillary and Bernie supporters several days before the event. Sanders' delegates were instructed to challenge every procedure and disrupt the convention. But they could not overturn the votes of he Nevada people in the end.

Bernie's tax returns will not be interesting.
They will show Bernie's income from the House plus Social Security and then Jane's income.
But Hillary's speech transcripts will be.
KingFlorez
(12,689 posts)But in reality, he is financially secure and that is considered well off by most people. Do you think he struggles to pay utilities or buy food? Not at all. The only reason he wouldn't release his returns is because he wants to maintain his image as being not well off.

(18,402 posts)Only the summary sheet for the single year 2014 (without any details or schedules). So everyone was absolutely correct in saying he had not yet released a return.
He has been in public service for over two decades, and he has released only one year's return--and that only after being badgered relentlessly by the pressand in the last week of the campaign.
What is he hiding? And why did it take him so long to release even this one year (from two years ago, yet)? There's definitely something he doesn't want seen. (Also, he knows that since he's not going to be the candidate, he doesn't want to divulge his personal information; if he thought he could win the nomination, he'd have to release at least the past seven years--the amount of time you are supposed to keep your returns. Read the smoke signals, people. It's over.)

he knew he was going to run for president.
He released one year, they year he knew he was going to run.
Now if he was to release more it would have gained him more respect.
The point is almost moot however.
His adventure is drawing to a close.

...her transcripts will reveal nothing we don't already know. She said flattering stuff to her paying hosts. Big deal... as far as his taxes. They would be relevant, if he were going to win. Something in the past tax returns is embarrassing. Again, nothing we can't figure out for ourselves. It only hurts him, so there is no need. We should be preserving Bernie's reputation, and looking for ways to support Hillary.
