Here is a question about something Bernie said about my county,

Santa Barbara county.

He talked about all the wealth in Santa Barbara then said that our county was fourth in the state with our poverty level.

Politically Santa Barbara county has been divided north and south. The south is were the wealthy live along the coast and they tend to be Democrats. The notth has the agriculture and oil and tends to be Republican.

Poverty is in the north because of immigrants.

We are doing a lot to provide services for the poor but the income distribution here is based on geography mostly.

Coastal south and industrial north. I think Bernie needs to recognize that when he talks about the income differences.

Does Bernie make any distinction as to why there is income inequality?

Shakespeare was a genius. Tolstoy was a genius. Bach, Beethoven, Picasso, were geniuses.

I'm just a dabbler in words and history with an interest in politics and people and books. My wife thinks I'm a genius because I was able to figure out the remote control. But, not so much when I forget our anniversary or my wallet when we go shopping.

But, I'm very much gratified by your kind words.

Santa Barbara County and California as a whole is exactly as Bernie says and you know this.

to brush aside genuine concerns. If Santa Barbara County has a high median income relative to the rest of the state and country AND ALSO a high poverty rate, that is worth pointing out. That the poverty is concentrated in certain subregions of the county is not surprising, and does not vitiate what I gather was Bernie's point about poverty in the midst of wealth -- which his campaign emphasizes DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THAT WAY. Sen Rubio honestly noted that if Bernie and supporters want the kind of more equal society he advocates he & we belong in Denmark or Sweden. Well, we want that IN THE US, and that is more than just a "mere" diagnosis.

Many of Bernie's "diagnoses" are NOT raised by other candidates -- and that is a very worthwhile start in progressive politics. Calling for solutions, like a WWII scale sudden & necessary economic transformation to meet the challenge of climate catastrophe is another very valuable part of what Bernie does

of CA verbiage. Santa Barbara County rich are a special thing. The 'Northern Part' of that small county is anchored by Santa Maria, where median home prices are about 350K.

What the OP does not want to talk about of course is who is poor in that county. Poverty rate for white people is 10%. 16% for African Americans, 19% for Latinos and 26% for Native Americans.

Your claim that poverty in your county is geographic in genesis is absurd and it is also not correct that poverty in the county is isolated in the northern part. Fact is poverty is the camp follower of the wealth in SB, with pockets of service poor around all the centers of affluence.
This stuff is all factual and comprised of information collected by your own county.

Taken together, the results of the poverty study and the national and statewide findings from the Census Bureau show that Santa Barbara County may have a higher median income ($60,078) than the state ($58,328) and the country ($51,000), but it also boasts a higher poverty rate. While the percentage of Californians living in poverty tops 16 percent and the percentage of Americans living in poverty hovers around 15 percent, Santa Barbara County weighs in at 18 percent.
