If the media calls the nomination over before California polls close, they will hurt voter turnout

and hurt any other Democrats and issues that may be on the ballots. Not that they would care though since the mainstream media are mostly a bunch of boot-licking corporate shills.

Clinton supports job killing Free Trade what the hell it's only jobs.

She supports Fracking for oil profits and to hell with the water quality for the peons.

She doesn't believe those suffering in pain should get medical marijuana because her friends at Big Pharma don't get a cut.

Clinton has supported wars that have killed over a million people and, unlike most people having empathy, supports cluster bombs that are particularly deadly to children.

Be a deciding factor in voting. Clinton only needs a few. California knows their vote won't make a difference. They will choose to vote or not. Calling it isn't a factor.

Seriously, why does declaring a winner hold down the votes of the loser's side more than the winner's? Logic would suggest that both have at best equal reasons to pass up voting.

I don't think that they care about voter turnout in the Western states. They'll want to have the breaking news moment. After all, it will be a historical nomination. The first woman to be the nominee of a major political party is as historical as Obama's nomination was in 2008.

..or have their votes counted on the same day.

Registered Democrats should receive ballots from their state parties; vote in the privacy of their home; and return the ballot by mail. Votes should be counted by a third party accounting firm. If it were up to me, winning candidates would be determined by votes and there would not be delegates. Alternatively, there would be one delegate per congressional district, and the candidate with the majority of elected delegates would win.

In general, though, I think it's problematic for states to be called while the polls are still open. Whether it's a primary or the night of the general election. The media calling contests before the polls close can hinder turnout, especially for the person who the media reports being the loser. Sure, some supporters of the winner won't bother to vote, but I would think the supporters of the loser are more demoralized (and less inclined to bother voting).

Regardless of which candidate one supports, there are questionable aspects of the political process. Caucuses, superdelegates, the media calling a contest before polls close, campaign financing, etc.

Before California is done. New Jersey on east coast will give it to Clinton. When jersey polls close and is called Clinton nominee then the argument is California is still open.

Well, so, isn't like everyone doesn't already know jersey will put her over.

So, I suppose I'm making a separate point, which is just that I don't think a contest should be called before the polls close. But the media is all about being the first to report something, and I don't see that changing.

As far as the Clinton vs. Sanders race, it was clear by mid-March that Clinton would end up with more pledged delegates.
