Flashback: AP Calls The Nomination For Obama "Tues" June 3rd 2008

Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois claimed the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday night, NBC News projected based on its tally of convention delegates.

By doing so, he shattered a barrier more than two centuries old to become the first black candidate ever nominated by a major political party for the nation’s highest office.

“After 54 hard-fought contests, our primary season has finally come to an end,” Obama told cheering supporters in a victory celebration in St. Paul, Minn., at the site of the convention that will nominate his Republican opponent in the fall, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.

Hillary Clinton not being the Dem nominee had begun to sink in just as the primaries began here in California in June 2008. There were rumors that she was going to drop out of the race and get solidly behind then Sen. Obama, so yes I was okay with what the AP did. No I didn't like it, but accepted and fully understood why the AP called then Sen. Obama he presumptive nominee for the President from the Dem side. I understood "bigger picture" of why things were going as they were. I didn't hesitate for one minute in throwing all of my support and vote behind Sen. Obama. Hillary to her credit campaigned her heart out for him. I am still so impressed by her efforts in uniting our party in 2008, when there was a lot of tension existing between the two sides.

I was happy to see Hillary win CA though. That was some consultation
