Establishment Media Commit Massive Act of Malpractice And Claim Clinton ‘Clinched’

Establishment Media Commit Massive Act of Malpractice And Claim Clinton ‘Clinched’
07 Jun 2016
Kevin Gosztola

The Associated Press and NBC News inappropriately reported Hillary Clinton made history and “clinched” the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. It spurred other media organizations, such as CNN and the New York Times, to follow suit and splash their home pages with big headlines indicating Clinton was the nominee.

In engaging in this act, establishment media improperly influenced five primaries scheduled for June 7, including the California primary, one of the biggest contests in the presidential race thus far. They collectively stooped to a new sycophantic low.

The reports of “clinching” are entirely based on an unofficial survey of superdelegates, which the AP and NBC News has conducted throughout the 2016 election. They both determined Clinton reached the “magic number” needed to clinch, which is 2383 delegates.

But if it is true that history happened, why didn’t Clinton’s own party congratulate her? How come there was no statement from the Democratic National Committee?

snip//

The Democratic Party establishment has tried to push Sanders to quit for weeks. This could very well be some type of payback for staying in the race and competing for every last vote. If so, the establishment media is an effective co-conspirator in meting out this payback.

snip//

Back in 2008, around this time, Senator Harry Reid urged senators to “keep their decisions in their pocket” until South Dakota and Montana had voted. Referring to uncommitted superdelegates, he told reporters, “I want everyone, until the elections are over, to keep their decisions in their pocket.” He said “Secretary Clinton needs to be left alone to get through the primary process and let it run it’s course.”

The Democratic Party establishment has, in sharp contrast, refused to show Sanders the same respect and leave him alone until the primary runs its course. The party’s leading politicians have fueled a steady drumbeat of calls in the press to quit or “tone down” his campaign so Clinton can focus on beating Trump. The message has been it is insubordinate of Sanders to compete in the primary as aggressively as Clinton has competed for the support of voters.

The establishment media is eager to focus on churning out storylines about Clinton versus Trump. There is no better way to justify tuning out his campaign than to seize upon party insiders just as eager to see Sanders and his supporters fade away.

Queen. This is a draft pick not democracy.

She's picked by the press, not voters. Corporations own the news outlets.

Corporations pulled the strings for this puppet Coronation.

Pledged and Supers.

If we hadn't voted for her, there would be nothing to "call." But we did.

None of this was "against" Bernie. He pretty much blew all expectations out of the park, and most of us are really very glad he was in the race.

But more of us were for Hillary.

That's how it goes.

I thought it would always feel like that, but some people reached out here and there, on DU and IRL; and long story short - I'm now the proud owner of President Barack Obama's inauguration on DVD. Voted for him twice, volunteered for him in 2012.

I hope you are given the kindness, space and time to heal. I genuinely wish you well, and hope to see you side by side in the trenches someday - when you're ready.

What I'm saying is it is beyond the point of obvious as to who the dem nominee is.

I believe ap hurt Clinton with their announcement and wish it wouldn't have happened.

If you don't know who won the dem nomination there is nothing I can do about it.

have been "called" until the majority of pledged delegates were earned in the contest. It should have been called tonight.

But. Reporters are very competitive. I'm not shocked it happened, and ultimately it doesn't seem to have reduced turnout from what I've seen - so that's good.

Wasn't ideal, but it's done. I felt like it kind of robbed her of a really important moment between her and her voters and volunteers. I don't appreciate that.

It made things more awkward for Sanders too, which is also regrettable.

What the media did should not be defended by Clinton supporters. Defend your candidate but not this. This WAS Journalistic malpractice at it's worst. It not only hurts Sanders it hurts your own damn candidate should she become the nominee. Use your heads for heaven's sake. This is one time you should be on the same page with Sanders delegates in condemning what the media did.

"I do not think it means what you think it means."

I agree it was in everybody's best interest for them to wait to call it until after the 7th, but combining the pledged delegate count to an "unofficial survey of superdelegates" to determine if the magic number has been reached is practically the definition of "clinched" in this context.

I know the Sanders flock wants to keep on keeping on with the magic carpet ride but eventually every campaign ends. Even if he won, it would have ended at some point. It can't be February and March forever.

People's beliefs and values are very personally dear to them. Progressives have certain meaningful values and beliefs. You don't just abandon your values. What kind of a person would?

Expect the 5 stages of grief from half the board. I'm already emotionally gearing up to, feel the, cha cha being done on the grave of my hopes and dreams.
Yeah, laugh if you must, but some people here are very spiteful and yet, beyond reproach. It will be just like celebrating somebody's banning.

It's going to be really hard to be happy for them.
