I am so proud of Hillary Rodham Clinton -- a true inspiration and our future president!

8 years ago today, on June 7, 2008, after a grueling campaign and 18 million votes, Hillary Clinton gracefully conceded the race to Barack Obama in the closest Democratic primary race in history and endorsed him, looking forward with hope to a future time when a woman would finally, for the first time, become the nominee of a major party.

"Although we weren't able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you, it's got about 18 million cracks in it," Hillary said, "and the light is shining through like never before, filling us all with the hope and the sure knowledge that the path will be a little easier next time."

What she didn't know was that, exactly 8 years later, that woman would be non other than herself. I am so proud of Hillary Rodham Clinton for never giving up, for never staying down, and for always getting back up. Nothing has ever been easier for her, but she has never been dissuaded by the challenge; she only grows stronger. Our party is all the better for having such a beacon of strength and perseverance as our nominee.

Next January, I believe that we will watch as one of the most inspirational men ever to ascend to the presidency passes the baton on to an equally capable and equally inspirational woman. America is great, and it's about to become even greater.

Cheers, future Madam President!

Amen. She doesn't have Obama's rhetorical flourish, yet...I find her just as inspiring. In some ways, she inspires me because she doesn't have the natural charisma or the rhetorical flourish of Bill Clinton or Barack Obama. She has had to work like hell for everything she's achieved, fighting her way back on the basis of will, intellect, and wit.

She is Hermione to Barack Obama's Harry, or Bernie Sanders' Dumbledore. People don't immediately gravitate to her personality, but she is loyal, faithful, a tough study and an intellectual powerhouse, and she never stops fighting. And I think that is just as inspiring.
