2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie Supporters
All of you should be tremendously proud of what you have accomplished. A year ago, I would never have imagined Bernie would have as much as a single win. But he has done very well, with a massive following of passionate progressive supporters.
We are all in this together.

(1,941 posts)We need civility and I'd like to share some comfort with Bernie folks.
Our collective voices will never be silenced again. Bernie proved that the little folks, with $27 and a dream...CAN accomplish big things.

(504 posts)It ain't over....
I truly hope democracy will prevail and we'll have more options this cycle, else we risk a Trump (or Clinton) presidency.
I, for one, do not want that!

(3,473 posts)You couldn't have had a little class for one OP, could you?
Not when my country is being taken over by oligarchs, not really.
I didn't mean any personal disrespect to anyone, just I vehemently disagree with both Trump and Clinton. Am I not entitled to my own personal opinion, or would you just have me fall in line?

(3,014 posts)Because I've seen YOU be pretty mean to Bernie supporters for several months now.
Here's your chance. Why don't you make a thread apologizing for your behavior these past few months? Let see how it's accepted. For party unity and all.
SFnomad
(3,473 posts)crapped all over the carpet.
You're not someone to talk either when it comes to what you've posted over the last few months.
Buddyblazon
(3,014 posts)I'm not the one that has to work for unity. :dunno:
Kang Colby
(1,941 posts)But Democrats could sure use your help.
SFnomad
(3,473 posts)There were PUMAs back in 2008 that were saying the same types of things. They thought they were all that, they said Obama needed them, that he was weak, would bring out the racists in the GOP and that he wouldn't win without them. They found out in the end they were immaterial.
Those of you that want to be the Sanders equivalent will find out you're just as immaterial and not nearly as powerful as you think you are. Enjoy your sour grapes.
But if you do want unity, it would be a lot easier with you.
Buddyblazon
(3,014 posts)Okay. Nuf said.

(3,014 posts)I read them. The gist of your diatribe was you didn't need me. And I said fine.
As far as the "buh-bye"...MAKE me leave. Let's see you do that.
SFnomad
(3,473 posts)Buddyblazon
(3,014 posts)But let's be clear...you can't make me leave. Your "buh-bye"...check your ego. If and when I leave, it'll be of my accord. Not yours.
We clear?

(504 posts)sure. But in our case here in the U.S., we don't have that luxury.
If the shoe was on the other foot, this place (DU) would be incessantly taken over by the likes of Clinton supporters.

(65,616 posts)Bernie changed the dialog in this country and that will be around for a long time. He can go back to the senate and still keep up the good fight.
We have to make sure the GOP does not steal the WH, I don't trust them to do the right thing. Ever.
Kang Colby
(1,941 posts)I am awestruck at what Bernie was able to accomplish.
I was a huge critic of Sanders on DU. But I genuinely mean every word of what I'm saying here. Bernie crushed all expectations.
Rex
(65,616 posts)Granted that he caucuses with Dems, but was not sure. The reply is stunning. I've never let his supporters (or HRC supporters) dictate how I felt about the him or HRC. Bernie is the real deal, but so too is HRC she is ready to lead the country it is very obvious by now.
Both have a great progressive voting record, I will be proud to vote this November!

(504 posts)....issues.
Social issues? I'm in lock-step with her....but that's about it.
Don't expect us to just succumb to the establishment's whims. Won't happen.
Rex
(65,616 posts)And will be holding HRC to a very high standard.

(1,941 posts)Bernie was probably right on some key issues, seekthetruth. I think people are paying attention to that.
We can have disagreements on the issues, but we should just keep things in perspective.

(443 posts)because they keep calling me a racist sexist violet trouble maker because I supporter a Jewish person and not a Christian women because I did not like her past record. So I don't feel proud because I saw many lies being spread about Sanders and his supporters. It all started in SC when CNN reporter, WaPo and Rep Lewis said Sanders was lying about his 1960 Civil Rights activities and Rep Lewis tried to claim Clinton was down marching with MLK. This was the point that I no longer could stand Clinton and anyone who let her get away with this type of lies.

(885 posts)Fracking isn't a huge issue for me (gasp, some of us care about other things) and I don't agree with Clinton on how she handled her e-mails. That being said, I'll support the dem nominee over Trump or any Republicant any day.
I voted for Bernie in the Michigan primary. As did my wife. I've always been with him, but when it's called, it's called.

(65,173 posts)We have needed much more of this here. I realize that Bernie's best chance is a blowout in CA, which is unlikely. But Bernie's campaign as you said has been a huge inspiration for me.
I agree. His campaign has inspired so many millions of people. Bernie should be a source of pride for anyone that considers themselves progressive or a Democrat.
baldguy
(36,649 posts)I'm not seeing that yet.
Rex
(65,616 posts)No sane person will vote for Trump and those that sit out probably were going to do so if BS was not the nominee and planned to do so a long time ago.

(72,790 posts)I expected Ms. Clinton to win the nomination, but Bernie sure made it a race.
I was proud to have voted for Mr. Sanders.
Congrats to Hillary on her historic victory. I say victory, since I believe Hillary will be the nominee, even if it's a few weeks from becoming officially official.

(134 posts)I think she put it best when she said "there's more to unite us than divide us," or something like that. Would've loved a more progressive candidate, but she's the closest ally that will realistically win, and Trump is a monster. As a Bernie supporter from day one, I'll accept defeat and instead do my best to support progressive candidates for Congress, and work for existing members to push more leftist legislation--a real political revolution should be much more than the race for the White House.
Kang Colby
(1,941 posts)I think you have the right perspective.

(11,605 posts)I was afraid to support him in the beginning because I knew I would ultimately get my heart broken. And of course I did, but he went a lot farther than I expected and I am proud of him and what he has built.

(2,096 posts)I have not seen you on DU using the racist/sexist meme, accusing Sanders supporters of yelling english only or of throwing chairs that a lot of Clinton supporters used this election so I thank you for your kind remarks.
Kang Colby
(1,941 posts)But I've probably suggested worse than that a time or two...dozen.
At the end of the day, I'd much rather be working with Sanders supporters than against them. You all exceeded every expectation and shocked the world.
pmorlan1
(2,096 posts)or did you ever believe that?
Kang Colby
(1,941 posts)and goading? I didn't mean it.
I would say that people sometimes say or write things they don't really mean...or use hyperbole for a laugh. I can only speak for myself though...I personally thought it was just silly shenanigans on both sides.
pmorlan1
(2,096 posts)when it was directed at us. I'm still not laughing. Thanks for your honesty.
Kang Colby
(1,941 posts)I am sorry for the dumb things I posted. Bernie had the right idea and message on several key issues.

(8,201 posts)I think plenty of Democratic politicians are more progressive in their hearts than their actions might lead us to believe. I hope his campaign will make it easier for those Democrats to follow their progressive hearts.
