2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie Sanders' aides just threw him under the bus to Politico. This is blistering.
http://www.vox.com/2016/6/8/11881130/bernie-sanders-politicoThe main takeaway is that Sanders's aides know they've lost; the candidate doesn't.
The secondary takeaway: the aides are throwing the candidate under the bus (Big Time).

(17,064 posts)A rather bizarre strategy for sure. Not just here on DU...Earlier I responded to a comment on a friends FB page, and was immediately jumped on by half a dozen nasty trolls. Friend doesn't know who they even are, although he's a public figure with thousands of FB followers, I'm sure he doesn't know them all. But strange that half a dozen immediately went into attack mode. Definately a personality cult, but that's not going to get them a win in Nov. At this point, I don't even care.

(1,214 posts)I couldn't find the article I remembered which had a quote from a life long friend something like "She told me she wanted a journal and I asked her why. She replied to keep track of enemies." I'm pretty sure it was Salon or Politico or The Hill. If it was a conservative website I'd jabber away about Vince Foster or Benghaziiiiii. I don't feel like looking further, because I meant that quote as a quick reply to the "some say" quality of the post attacking Sanders.
hedda_foil
(16,371 posts)Certainly no worse than the norm. Far better than the internecine rivalry, attempted palace coups and backbiting of Hillary's team in 2008.
I'm a Hill supporter, and remember the similar reporting against her in 2008. Horribly cruel to fling this shit at someone when they're down. We should instead recognize their valiant fight, and how close they came to winning. Both Hill in '08, and Bern right now.

(5,614 posts)Its like the stories making it sound like laying off staff is some sort of unique development. Working on a campaign is good for resume building, etc., but there is no way it is a career. Supposedly a whole bunch of folks are going to get a thank you and a handshake and maybe a letter of recommendation and that's all she wrote. With only one primary left and HRC being dramatically ahead carrying a full staff forward is a nice idea but WTF? After D.C. the campaign needs little more than a handful of people. More would be simply a waste of money.
As for the second guessing, that's always the way things pan out. Hard to find fault with that. Maybe if Sanders was more (fill in the gap) and less (ditto) things might have worked out differently. Considering the fact that a) he was not lusting for the White House for over a quarter century and b) that he was trying to beat the drums for old-line Democratic positions, he did a great job. In one year the campaign went from a joke to a real threat to the Establishment, financed mostly by grass roots fund raising giving the lie to the Third Way/Clintonista/Democratic Establishment dogma that only the rich can and should have any impact on the nation's politics.
Anyone who doesn't see what an incredible success that is should give it some more thought.
So, IMHO, most likely the grumpy Senator from Vermont will return to the Senate and probably get a standing ovation for waging such an outstanding fight against all odds.
Not bad for a guy from Brooklyn who's even older than me.
As for progressives, some of whom will be surprised at how quickly the Establishment works to reinforce the status quo, there are some venues open for them to continue the fight for those ideas we consider worth fighting for.
And the fight must go on. The world will not wait.
The water is rising.

I remember seeing her interviewed on MSNBC the day after the New York Super Tuesday primaries when the interviewer said she had just gotten a report from the campaign that the Sanders campaign was reassessing. Jane was taken about and stoutly disavowed the report. The next day, the report was that the campaign was full steam ahead. I felt she had more influence on the candidate than his hires.

However, on reflection and reading some other posts, I think I'd better take this with a teaspoon of post firing salt. See response #73.

(1,446 posts)This really does validate all those feelings that had been springing up, particularly in the last couple of months. It was pretty obvious he veered from being a cause candidate back when the primaries started, glad to see that those around him agreed as well...since it reinforces his lack of qualifications for the office he was seeking. Jane gave several interviews that seemed to have not been cleared by someone knowledgeable in public relations and campaign functioning.
