2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI just really wonder how Bernie supporters feel when they watch Hillary's speech and her
compliments of him and his campaign and then watch how they responded when Bernie mentioned Hillary? It's not even about political correctness. It's about civility and decency.

She doesn't have have anything to say to me after that. I didn't listen to her speech.

(1,820 posts)I watched the whole speech - what you heard was deep deep disappointment that he had to make a call because he did not win. I didn't hear BOOING loud or otherwise...just saddness.
You guys have not one fucking drop of mercy or understanding that people are CRUSHED tonight. Of course Hillary's supporters can cheer Bernie - they fucking won. They don't give a rats ass about him...they cheer every word she says...they cheered so loudly she could not be heard at first.
Make a big deal out of disappointment.
AND Why - I ask - WHY - you all won tonight but you won't be happy until you CRUSH Bernie and all his supporters.
You don't want us here we get that - but hey TOUGH BEANS we are here and we are proud of the movement we created and the forcing LEFT of some people who would rather move right.
Why aren't you guys celebrating...why are you grousing and pouting because Bernie and his followers won't bow down.
If YOU REALLY listen to his speech it is clear he is getting ready to bow out...he has to be gentle or his followers will be devastated.
Try some compassion for pete's sake.

(7,573 posts)when bernie mentioned Hillarys name...in contrast when Hillary talked and THANKED bernie...her crowd cheered. Quite a contrast. If you did not hear booing, you need to have your hearing checked.

(1,820 posts)I listened to the whole speech several times. As I said it was not booing....it was grumbling for sure and disappointment true. And Bernie gave them all the hands to be quite.
You guys are just angry and NO ONE knows why.
Wow...

(21,998 posts)Many more of us respected and admired Senator Sanders even though we did not support his candidacy. I understand your feelings of loss; as a life-long Democratic voter, I've felt similar disappointments too often.
Be proud of the battle your team waged. Let's make certain that Donald Trump and all Republicans are crushed in November.

(1,820 posts)I am sure the speech last night wasa move toward Bernie's move to bow out. I have great trespect for him. He is starting a movement so it is not the end. Change is slow and sometimes feels to slow.
I know I have seen the change. Most of it good. Slow though!
Have a very nice day!

also, yea, a lot of Bernie supporters really dislike Hillary. That is reality, like it or not.

(45,319 posts)have endorsed Hillary when they come hat in hand like they do. The antisemitic themes, the Reagan as AIDS hero lies, the smears about those photos that really were Bernie, all of those things need to be dealt with or there will be nothing added to those hats. I simply can't be part of a Party that deals in bigoted tropes and lies about good people while revising history to serve Republicans.
DU can brush it under the rug but that will not work in the larger world.

I think that's probably been the single most disappointing thing about the primary season here. As a survivor of The Great 2009 Homopurge, I probably shouldn't be surprised to see open bigotry among self-styled liberals, but I guess I had hoped things might have improved a bit in these past seven years.

That's the difference.
You are nominating a candidate you a large part of the Democratic voters finds very objectionable.

(53,743 posts)what AP called last night, right?
AP is a news outlet. That's what they do, they compete with the other news organizations to try to be the first to break a story.
We should all know this already. This is not our first rodeo with the media.
There was no conspiracy afoot to screw Bernie.

(35,622 posts)can't stand her, can't stand the way she reads from a teleprompter, can't stand anything about her.
If she is the president, and that's still a big if, considering the Clinton Foundation, then I will spend my activist time watching and making people aware of how much she's favoring special interests at the expense of the average American citizen.
And no, I won't vote for her. I'll just drop out of the voting system.

(2,437 posts)Like you, NJCher, I live in New Jersey. She has this state lock, stock, and barrel.
My problem with her is she doesn't listen. She will hear others out, but won't take their suggestions into consideration.
I will vote for her toadie (AKA Rep. Bill Pascrell). But that is it.
NJCher
(35,622 posts)The lock on this state needs to break because the corruption is costing us a huge amount. Fifteen thousand a year for property taxes on an average middle-income home? The higher education system is a shambles; I know because I've worked in it for 20 years. Kean University is a virtual work fountain for construction contractors and asphalt pavers.
Re BP, years ago I worked on a citizen activist group and ended up writing a letter to the editor that castigated Pascrell for not doing enough. He called me on the phone about it the next evening! Guess I touched a nerve, LOL.

And then came the declarations that my candidate was solely responsible for Sandy hook. Oh, and the claims that my mother, my sister, my girlfriend were stupid hellbound dick-chasing gender-traitors for supporting Bernie. There' so much more there, but those just sort of... stick out at me.

(6,342 posts)Of course they cheered when she mentioned him. Hillary supporters want their Democratic unity. They want those voters for the general election. Thats all they care about.
They don't give a fuck what his message was as is proven by Hillary voters here on this forum who have called Bernie supporters "sexists" and "kids just wanting free stuff". Fuck that shit.
I don't watch Hillary anymore anyway. I've been watching her for 20 years. There is nothing she can say that will change my opinion of her.

(2,872 posts)She sparks off the most disgusting churning of my stomach if I even catch a glimpse of her on the news-- which is why my TV's been tuned to Netflix for the past six months. I'll believe it's about civility and decency when she owns up for arming Libyan and Syrian rebels to spark off another terrorist group nearly taking the entirety of the territories of Iraq and Syria, creating another enemy of ours, and, oh yeah, taking donations from the Saudis-- who created the most socially regressive brand of Islam in existence(that the enemies she made for us worship, no less).

(45,319 posts)If I hear more of that stuff I won't be able to cast a vote for her. So it is much better to just let her talk and talk and later in November check the box while thinking of the old days before she said that stuff when I was fairly fond of her.
When I listen to her, my heart is occasionally broken by her words and that's just not worth it. The Reagan Adoration just turned me off entirely. Dredged up such sad memories while letting me know that my country has already forgotten it all, that they never really cared to begin with.

(4,229 posts)I'm a Sanders supporter.
I feel like Clinton is being a class act. She wants to unify the party.
How do I feel when I hear them booing Hillary? Well I saw a lot of kids at Bernie rallies and people who were never into politics before and I feel like they have never really followed a race or had their candidate lose before. So mostly I just feel sorry for them. They will learn if they stay in politics. The first race I really followed was McGovern when I was 12 and I was crushed and angry when he lost to Nixon.
So more than feeling angry or anything I just hope they don't abandon politics because we need more enthusiastic people.
