Pelosi at DNC Platform Hearing: Incrementalism hasn't worked. We need to think big.

She said this in regards to homelessness. She repeated thinking big numerous times and seemed really rattled. I have never heard her sound like this.

She referred to Native Americans. We have been hearing about something being done for Native Americans who live on the reservations (in extreme poverty) for YEARS but nothing gets done.

Pelois represents San Francisco.

San Francisco: Homelessness - shame of the city.

A large majority in the House and 60 votes in the Senate would mean there is not need to compromise with Republicans, though you will still need to compromise between different personalities in the Democratic Party.

To elect a Congress that would pass better legislation.

When Democratic voters don't give a pig fart and elect good members of Congress, Republicans win Congress.

Congress controls legislation.

Presidents actually have no power to legislate.

So, yes, people who don't vote are responsible for their actions. People who don't show up perpetuate bad government as much as those who vote every time to put one in power.

The reason why we get the same people elected again and again is people do not show up and vote. Even in gerrymandered districts, there are enough people that if they all show-up and vote they can throw the bums out. (That is why we have the rare wave elections where people do rise up and change the government.) In midterms, the turnout in my neighborhood drops down in the thirty percent range. It is the same 30%. (Most of those 30% are Republican. Oddly in my district Democrats slightly outnumber the Republicans.) In special elections, the turnout is as low as 10%. In special elections, less the 10% of that 10% are Democrats like me.

If people want good government, they need to show up at every election. If they don't, then whatever lousy government elected is their fault.

The reason why the right wing in this country works so hard to disenfranchise as many as they can is that they can get their voters to the polls.

In every election, a government will be elected. If only one voter shows up, that one person will elect the government.

And as to your complaint that those in power don't do what you want, then show up and vote every time. Kick all our friends out of their house and get them to vote. You may not win the first or second time, but if we work at it we will get enough people to make a difference.

For the 1%, that is. And they can stall on the increments forever, or else blandly say that just what exactly the increments are is up to them.

There is a LOT of hostility towards the pro-business, SF Democrats right now, so much so that we are looking at a recall of our Mayor and we just elected a new DCCC slate that is about to shake some shit up. If things continue in that vein, Pelosi may find herself facing a Democratic primary challenge from the left. In Bernie's wake, a lot of Dems will be having to tack Left in order to stay in business. Including Miss Nancy.

of much of the pro-business Dem agenda. She is the one who spearheaded the partial privatization of San Francisco's Presidio when it was added to the GGNRA. Since then, turning various public assets in the GGNRA in private money makers has been a big hit with "Democrats".
