You are aware that your vote in a primary doesn't count toward the GE, right? You have to vote again.

(3,111 posts)unless the rest of you all are really so conservative that you don't like what Bernie is saying.
In which case, it definitely is war for the soul of the once Democratic Party, from now till forever.
It should be so easy to make room for Bernistas in the Democratic Party, if it really is anything like it says it is - party of the People.

This link is what I'm talking about. This is pretty much all of what Bernie has been talking about. I mean, do we have to sacrifice jobs and income and financial security in order to elect a woman President, in order to fight for racial justice? I don't think so.

CrowCityDem
(2,348 posts)The party let Bernie join to run, and let them run the campaign they wanted. They made plenty of room. It's not their fault the voters sided with Hillary.

(2,427 posts)However, waiting until after Obama endorses is a safe bet. I think HRC and Sanders would have enjoyed an earlier endorsement from her, sitting on her hands until it was safe means little.

He could have run as an independent, or as a socialist or whatever.

Cosmocat
(14,563 posts)if you managed to go backwards from point a to z like that.
The point of Bernie choosing to run as a democrat instead of as an independent or socialist or whatever other party was that he wanted the full democratic network at his disposal if he became the actual nominee.
In the primary, yes, the party mainly chose to back the candidate who had been active member of the party for three decades.

(1,580 posts)Bernie received support from the dem party throughout his career. He even received Hillary pac money in 2006 for a very contentious campaign he was having with his repug opponent. Make no doubt about it, Caucusing with the dems benefited Bernie, as well.
Cosmocat
(14,563 posts)As did Hillary when she was a senator.
Meanwhile, for 30+ years, while Bernie was an independent, Hillary was a democrat and actively participated in democratic party functions and activities.
I know you will have a hard time believing this, but you don't have to be a virulent acolyte to have voted Bernie. I did, and knew I would from pretty much the point he announced a year ago. I voted for him because 1) He was most right on the issues 2) He is one of VERY few who speak, unabashadly and directly championing progressive policies (he has balls).
At same time, I knew Hillary was going to win the nomination, and this particular discussion was one of the reasons.
I respect, and in fact am a LOT like Bernie, my own man, and it made it hard for me when I did my foray into politics, and I suffered from a lack of party support like he did for pretty much the same reasons.
Bernie did it right for a LONG time (and honestly is doing it right now,k too). But, life is life, and doing it right means you often are at odds with the reality of the world.
He wanted to plug into the democratic party apparatus to try to win POTUS, but parties value loyalty, and have a tribal mentality. He just happened to have made this run when a super established person, whose "time" it was, was running.
Maybe another time he would have been able to push his way through it, but Hillary just had too much working for her.

(146,286 posts)Hillary Clinton and work with her to defeat Donald Trump. That will be his choice, and won't be based on people telling him to take his ball and go home. Bernie's a very smart man, and has the wisdom to know what the best course in this election is.
I hope his wisdom is infectious among his supporters. If not, I wonder if they were really his supporters, or were just using him to attack Clinton.
Don't believe me? Just watch.
