I'm under 45 and he can count me OUT of this 'revolution'

Not interested in hearing one more damn word about his donations, how awesome he is, how oppressed he is, how many caucuses he won, and not one damn more word about what he demands in light of his YUUUGE loss to Candidate Hillary Clinton.

All this anticipation about this speech and how excited everybody was. Pfffttt! I hope the DNC was listening and makes sure that anybody who refused to concede DOES NOT GET ONE DAMN MINUTE of time on stage at Hillary's party- the Democratic National Convention.

That had to be just about the most pessimistic and depressing speech I have ever watched. So glad they cut away.

Same damn speech I saw for the last year. Nothing new, just a list of complaints, demands, accusations, and self congratulatory plea for continued attention.

We don't need to change anything. Big money buying our politicians is working out really well for everybody.

Just a warmed over version his stump speech - minus all the good parts.

70. There are no magic solutions

The solutions come from people standing together and demanding that we adjust our priorities. Sanders' supporters get this. They want an active role not a leader with a quick fix.

73. They don't have to be magic. But he hasn't offered any solutions of any kind, i.e., ......

..HOW to fix things, how to improve things, how to make changes.

During my very last class in college our adviser came into the class room and filled us in on what to expect in our careers, and how to approach those careers. He said something that I'll never forget - if you want to criticize something you'd better be prepared with a way to fix it or do it better.

That was almost 50 years ago, it's still appropriate today.

Sadly Sanders has never put forward any way to fix the things he complains about or ways to do them better.

Solutions for college, healthcare, family leave, child care, infrastructure, energy. Tell me how any other candidate has a plan to accomplish these goals to an equal or better satisfaction

180. Most importantly, he is attacking the root problem that prevents solutions to a myriad of

other problems, the problem of our (former) Representatives who are legally bribed to represent Donors instead of their constituents. Hillary and Bill have always been a big part of that problem.

184. We don't care

He had a job to do last night and that was to concede. He didn't do it. Thus, he is no use in the general. Bernie would have to concede...and without that he can't help. He better be careful asking for money...the primary is over and he will find himself in hot water if he continues.

185. Ah, and therein lies the difference!

You don't care that we live under corporate rule. You don't care that companies like BP can ruin our environment and avoid paying the full costs. You don't care that the networks use the public airwaves to brain wash the under-educated and those too busy working to survive this terrible and hard world.

You want Hillary for your own reasons and beliefs, I get that, but ignore the past history and anything that doesn't make her look good. I believe that had their positions been reversed and Hillary have had to contend with the extra hurdles that Bernie did you would be crying foul! I agree that the Republicans have never been fair to her, but she has not been attacked by her own Party like Bernie has. Before you start with Bernie is not a real Democrat shtick, his policies have always been soundly based in Democratic principles. I respect that you believe she is best for us, in that I must respectfully disagree.

He will help Hillary defeat Trump. He will also try to hold her feet to the fire to stick to policies that restore Representative Democracy rather than the quid pro quo she owes for all of the money she has taken in. I know, she says the money has no effect on her, they all do. You believe her when she says it, but I do not!

Bernie's campaign was not just to seek the WH, but to advance the agenda of the 99%. To do that under the system we have now is impossible without a political revolution. He/we will continue to try to advance that revolution. I believe that Hillary will become President and we will see what she does, but our political revolution will continue. You will get what you want so I would urge you to focus on the General and leave Bernie to do his thing. You obviously don't care about what he stands for, but he is no longer a direct threat to your chosen candidate and her ambitions!

196. No you misunderstand

I don't care about Bernie Sanders...I am in for progressive ideas and think we can make real progress...but I would never support anything that he is involved in. He can't help us in the general unless he concedes and endorses...thus...he should go home and work in the senate...make some more amendments to add to bills that are never passed. He has treated the first woman nominee for president from a major party with complete disrespect. And I will never get over it. When he said he would talk Hillary...I was enraged briefly...then I shook it off...it is not the first nor will it be the last some man thinks a woman needs mansplaining. I just didn't expect it from Sen. Sanders.

223. So it appears that a male politician cannot have

a disagreement or discussion with a female politician without it being "mansplaining?"

Hillary is a tough politician and has proven she can handle herself just fine. Bernie has not been not been as tough on her as anyone else would have been, and not because she is a woman, but because he has tried to stick to issues. Otherwise he would have gone after her email/server controversy.

Some objectivity would be refreshing.

NONE of it is possible without at least a Democratic Party majority in the Senate. Bernie has done jack shit to help that happen. in fact, he has condemned fundraising to help that happen. Under Bernie's proposals, according to most trusted economists, EVERYBODY would have their taxes increased under Bernie's plan. Even those least able to pay for a tax increase. To say that they would receive better benefits in return is very callous. Bernie really doesn't understand poverty.

284. He himself said that he didn't expect those things to get accomplished in his first term.

What he didn't seem to realize is that, if he didn't get his plan through in a first term, there would be no second term. Bernie's ideas were a pipe dream at best. With a GOP run Congress, his ideas were always just wishful thinking. Now the fact that the GOP gave us the gift of a lifetime in the form of Donald Trump, the GOP Presumptive Nominee, we have hope for taking back one if not both Houses. But none of us could have counted on this, a year ago.

300. You know that isn't true

He has a website full of very specific issues with very detailed solutions.

Take for example climate change:
https://berniesanders.com/issues/climate-change/
https://berniesanders.com/people-before-polluters/
http://feelthebern.org/bernie-sanders-on-climate-change/
And a very interesting article comparing Clinton and Sanders plans:
http://www.climatechangenews.com/2016/04/12/diverging-views-sanders-and-clinton-on-climate-change/

That is one topic, took me seconds to do the search and finds reams of information.
Google is your friend if you really want to learn what his plans on any given topic...I have a feeling you won't care though and not reply or reply and change the subject.

309. Then why, in a side by side comparison

Do most conservation voters prefer Sanders plan to confront climate change than Clinton's plan? Just as one example.

As stated in the article I already linked:
On voting, the League of Conservation Voters gives Bernie Sanders a 100% rating in 2015 and 95% over his lifetime.

Clinton received an 82% lifetime rating from the LCV, but the group endorsed her in November without laying out why they spurned the politician with a better record in their own tallies.

The fallback complaint is that Clinton is more likely to get things done, she will compromise, work a deal or however the excuse is shaped.
It is only a compromise if each party to the compromise is giving up something of equal proportion to the other. That is rarely what happens on legislation or any agreement with government. As is true in many cases, the poor and middle-class do all the giving and the wealthy and/or powerful do all the taking.

"It's easy to talk about the virtues of compromise when you are not the one being compromised."

....of the two candidates, wouldn't you think?

Of course, since they didn't endorse Sanders the immediate reaction is that the process is flawed.

319. Why the endorsement?

I don't have that answer, ask them. I just know that based on their own rating system, he has a better rating, a better voting record and better public policy positions, from them than she does. It's not my system, it's their system. I'll leave it up to others as to "why".

321. Rating systems aren't necessarily useful when two people have very very close ratings. Plus....

....I don't know that they have even rated Clinton since she left the Senate (their system seems to concentrate on legislators)

The bottom line is that they evaluated the two candidates based on a number of factors, and if you read their press release they overwhelmingly decided upon Clinton.

Who knows, they may have come to the same conclusion that many Democrats did during the primaries, although the two candidates have similar ideas they see Clinton as being better able to get things done as President.

... want to believe that everyone other than Bernie is corrupt, you just go ahead and believe that. And I won't be surprised if you do, because that's how cults operate - brainwash your followers into believing that anyone who doesn't agree with you is "the enemy" (or, in this case, "the Establishment".

Bernie's only interest in bringing in more people was people who would vote for HIM, not for the Democratic Party. Quite the opposite - he continually told those he claimed to be "bringing in" that the Dem Party is full of corrupt corporate whores, and he and he alone could change all of that.

He railed against the very idea of super-delegates - and then did a complete 180 and declared that he would try and convince them to ignore the voice of the voters and hand him the nomination.

And how did his supporters react to that hypocrisy? "Well, if Bernie does it, then it's okay."

I don't think Bernie or the millions who have supported him want to see the Democratic Party as 'the enemy." Would rather see it represent what it claims to stand for so they can be enthusiastic supporters of it.

But we are not happy with the system corruption that has overtaken politics and government -- including the role of the Democrats in that.

We believe that it should be opened up and change course away from the conservatism it has veered into on too many issues.

That is NOT cultlike -- and the fact that he got somewhere around 43 percent of the vote indicates that it is not a "fringe cult."

121. No, it's not a "fringe cult".

It's a rather mainstream cult, which attracted - as all cults do - people who were easily manipulated into believing that their One True Saviour had finally arrived, the One who would right all wrongs, and give them whatever they desired.

And all they had to do to bring about this glorious, corruption-free, justice-for-all utopian future was to vote for their self-proclaimed Leader.

I'm certainly not saying that all BSers are cultists. Most of them just liked Bernie more than they liked Hillary. But they're Democrats first, and they'll vote for HRC in November. They never saw themselves as part of a Revolution, or a Popular Uprising, or a Grand Movement - or whatever else the cultists see themselves as.

128. I'm not a cultist -- Kind of moderate actually -- But I do think we need a major change

We have allowed our economy, and political system and government to be thrown totally out of whack and distorted. We have allowed an obscene disparity in Wealth and Power to develop to the determent of a majority of Americans. Reagan and the GOP instigated it, but too often the Democrats have been far too helpful.

In order to get back to anything approaching a balance and "mid point" we need to change that disastrous course before it's too late.

And yes, I really am kind of moderate. I actually agree with the message of many of Obama's speeches over the years.

I'll vote for Hillary when the times comes. I support Sanders staying in until the convention, because I feel his policies and ideas can make the party better. I support bringing young people into the party that had become so cynical that they wouldn't have otherwise become involved. I take offense to all the cult allegations and general distain heaped on millions of citizens.

Of course you and "your cohorts" never mention that what the Sanders campaign has done is truly historic and has given hope to people, that a purely populace campaign, running on nothing but grass roots donations, could even get to the table. But rather than see a miracle that should give real hope to the those who despair of the apathy in this country, especially amount the young, you heap distain on them.

11. You know what's more depressing?

Suicide rates rising, United States infant mortality being between Croatia and Serbia, and fifteen neighborhoods in Baltimore having lower life expectancy than North Korea.

These are issues people deeply care about, and need to be heard. Having bold vision on them is going to be what invigorates the party not only for this election, but the next midterm election, local elections, and beyond.

The events of last Sunday highlight his appalling voting record on guns.
He was trounced in D.C.
All three candidates that he endorsed in the Nevada primary lost last night.

Even tonight's phone event was damaging. It seemed like a publicity stunt, and he sounded bitter and out of touch.

His voting record is his voting record. You can't debunk facts.

117. That bothered me, too, uponit7771.

Not only that there was no endorsement, but he barely mentioned her, except to say he'd had a meeting with her and that they disagreed on some things but agreed on other things. Period. That was IT. No acknowledgement that she won, no even begrudging congratulations, which would have added a really classy note to his speech. There was no conciliatory reach-out to those of us in the Hillary camp who also worked hard and volunteered and donated and voted (because if he REALLY wants a political revolution that moves the massive numbers of voters needed to force meaningful change, he is going to need us Hillary people whether he wants to admit that or not). And yes I realize it was billed as a speech specifically to his supporters, which also meant it was not inclusive nor was it intended to be.

Bernie Sanders could be the ultimate leader in unifying our party behind the REAL goal ahead - which is keeping the White House in Democratic hands. But he doesn't seem interested in that. Fact is, we DO have to unite. But I didn't feel as though he was speaking to someone like me, at all. And forgive me, but his speech tonight did sound an awful lot like all his other speeches throughout the campaign, with the familiar litany of complaints about everything gone wrong.

The problem, objectively as of now, is that the clock is ticking on the amount of leverage he can wield as a Senator, and as leader of this political revolution he still envisions. The longer he holds out, the more it will begin to reinforce what Barney Frank warned awhile back - that Bernie isn't a team player. The longer he holds out, the more he risks looking like he's simply in denial at best, or a sore loser at worst. The longer he holds out, the greater likelihood that he'll start building a reputation for poor-sportsmanship. That will squander whatever clout he's earned in all this time, and frustrate whatever changes he wants to see implemented. It shouldn't be his fate to wind up looking like a fool, but I'm afraid that's where he seems bent on heading. He's spent a LOT of years in politics and public service. This shouldn't be how his career ends.

What bothered me most was the follow-up report featuring the small gathering of Bernie supporters for a watch party in a diner here in L.A. Two young women were interviewed. They both in all seriousness told the reporter they were still holding out hope that Bernie would be the nominee. I don't think it's right to keep supporters' hopes up like that, when the door is closed, Hillary has steadily gained in important endorsements including those from some of Bernie's own super delegates, and there's NOT likely to be any indictment or other intervention to take her out of action. Hell, the FBI hasn't even called to talk to her in all this time. You'd think if there was something afoot in that department, that there's been enough investigation time to have them swarming her by now.

I was hoping for better from him. Perhaps we'll see that part of him in a few more days?

Hillary won - or didn't you hear?

She's running against Trump not Bernie anymore.

You need to channel your energies and hate toward Trump and the Repugs now and get over the Dem Primary.

If all the Hillary supporters - like yourself - channeled their cute quips and cuts about Bernie towards Trump and the Repugs - Hillary will win by a landslide and we can probably give her the Senate and the House to boot.

Get over Bernie - he lost and he knows it.

Put yourself to serving your presumptive nominee now and use your posts hear on DU and in social media to wipe out Trump and the Repugs. Please!!!!!!!

I got a hide on a post critical of Sanders and one of the four jurors cited his/her dislike of anti-Semitic Hillary supporters when my post had nothing to do with his religion. So you want to criticize someone for making an anti-Semitic slur, go for it. But do not turn every critical comment of him into an anti-Semitic slur.

240. My kids fit that description.

Both of them are Millennials. And both of them voted for Hillary, a choice they each came to on their own, without any prompting from me. My daughter even said, unsolicited, "he doesn't offer any concrete solutions, just a lot of complaining." She said she liked Hillary better because Hillary had specific ideas and spelled out ways to implement them. But then again, both my kids are pretty doggone practical in their thinking.

That said how do posts such as that affect you and give you permission to act as rudely???? This OP is certainly not that!

I have a theory that many Hillary supporters keep pointing ng at Bernie because they got nothing to support their candidate. So they point to the other (you know the other) to distract from the fact the got nothing.

Prove me wrong. Go celebrate Hillary's victory. Post groovy reasons we should vote for her! Go outside and plant somthing or do something you love to celebrate your victory!!! Prove you have a winner as a candidate. It will be fun!

92. What a difference from 2008.

Hillary lost the nomination by a hair. She and Obama each had 48% of the popular vote. His pledged delegate advantage was only 102. Yet, she conceded 4 days after the last primary ended. At the convention she released her delegates so that Obama could be nominated by acclamation. She immediately began campaigning for Obama.

Sanders is proving to be a small man. For moths he insisted that super delegates should switch to him due to some match-up polls. Never mind that he was far behind in pledged delegates and the popular vote. He appears to at least have let go of that undemocratic strategy. Unfortunately, he has yet to concede and will go all the way to the convention with his 1,900 delegates. I guess that the party can forget a Hillary nomination by acclamation.

Sigh.....

She wouldn't still be tilting at windmills and pointing out her differences with the nominee. She would also not hold on to her delegates at the convention and try to use them to gain concessions from the party and the nominee.

178. 55 here, loving the encouraging and passing the torch to supporters

Bernie is definitely a man with vision and we are going to be better for it. "Be involved, run for offices, be engaged." "We, not me."

This is a long distance run. It is nurturing and encouraging any of us fed up with the system to do something about it. If someone wants to sit on the path with arms crossed and snear "Oh please" as a deterrent, we run past the stubborn road block and keep moving forward.

The Democratic Party could have recognized that with Occupy there is growing anger at corruption and dirty politics, but chose to distance, disrupt, and disenfranchise further as they chose money over people. There is a second chance to actually pick up youth and those of us not happy with the cronyism and politics as usual. It will be interesting to see if the party will evolve or get back to where it was before Koch tentacles or not. The race and long distance run goes on with or without it.

216. Please let me know when HRC starts to challenge corporate money in a meaningful way!

Because everything i see from her gives me the impression that she's perfectly fine with it and wants to do everything in her power to help Big Money amass even more of it.

When she challenges Big Money in a way that'll hurt them its profitability let me know.

For example, Bernie effectively said he'd put the Health Insurance companies out of business and in a way that would make costs go down for the consumer.... you know? Just like EVERY OTHER DEVELOPED NATION with the exception of just one which pays at least 35% more in per-capita health care expenditure than the next highest.

That's not some 'pie-in-the-sky' platform that can't be achieved. The only reason I see that it "can't be done" is because those health care profits are just sooo magical in the USA that we live much longer and have more doctor visits than any other country... except we don't do either of those things.

297. First of all the rigged election system chose Hillary the Powers That Be's candidate

just like in 2000 and 2004. I respect the will of the People and not the will of the Banksters and Wall Street. There are a lot of Democrats that do not like Clinton and they are People with will. And of all the eligible voters very few support Hillary. Will of the People my back-pocket. The DNC didn't want a primary and why is that? They already had been told by the Big Money who would be the candidate. But the progressive voices of America have spoken and we want an honest government, not one dominated by Citizens United, Special Interests and the Billionaires. Hey I understand why some people prefer the perceived comfort of having the big bullies (major corporations) looking after them.

All Democrats agreed during the Bush Admin that we were being stripped of our voting rights, our freedoms and liberties and our resources. And since Bush it's only gotten worse for the 99%. It's unreasonable to expect an Admin that was funded by Special Interests to work to help those among us that are struggling. I guess we can tell the 2.5 million homeless children that we can't help them because we are being pragmatic.

Shame on those that side with the Big Corporations in lieu of the 99%.

... why he would have been a horrible nominee. And if he does do as I anticipate, it will help to illustrate why all of our criticisms of his being "un-presidential" (particularly his demeanor during the debates) were right on target from the very beginning.

It makes no sense for me to say that he'd have been a terrible president, because he could never actually be elected. The well-funded GOP smear machine would have thoroughly decimated him.

But I guess you think your words affect me, so I can politely watch you Get yourself lathered up for a while. If you enjoy the idea of me being oh so very saddened by your displeasure, that's cool. Kinda funny, and I enjoy a laugh as much as the next person. Got my doobie and my bic so keep em comin, lol

380. I was just wondering when you became self-obsessed with your obvious MO.

It is almost the same level of obsession that shira possesses.

As to angry, you really don't know how to read people nearly as well as you believe that you do.

But as to reading you... The internet is full of your posts.

Have fun with your doobie, but smoking isn't necessarily good for you.

282. So you are a tool of the establishment?

The establishment exists to preserve/protect white privilege.

305. I'm over 50 and I give mad respect to Sanders, or anyone else,

willing to stand up and demand changes that expand social justice and call for desperately needed changes in this country.

Vote early, vote often, vote Democrat.

332. Way to be unified buddy.

I keep trying to like Hillary supporters but I just can't like some of you. You are incredibly arrogant, rude, and just plain mean people. But that's ok. You see how well that is going to help you in the future.
