What's the plan here, Bernie? How is refusing to concede an election you lost by double digits going to get us to single payer?

(2,280 posts)It's not going to get us to single payer, but somehow I doubt he cares about that anymore, if he ever even did.

(1,442 posts)and specifically, he's pissing off establishment D, and he's clearly stated he is going to help to defeat Trump
He's not doing the 'help' as you'd want it be and again that's on YOU not him, he's made the decision to assist as he sees fit
So ask yourself why you are unable to let it go, if Bernie isn't really a factor any longer why are you dedicating so much time and effort towards him?
YouDig
(2,280 posts)Yeah, he stated that he is going to help defeat Trump, but his actions are helping Trump. If he wants to help defeat Trump, then stop the anti-Democratic rhetoric and get behind our nominee.
I didn't say Bernie's not a factor. He has no chance of being nominee, but he can still be a strong pro-Trump factor in the general election if he keeps this up.
HumanityExperiment
(1,442 posts)you're entitled to your own perspective but you're not entitled to you own facts
why would he heed anything HRC or her supporters have to say about how Bernie should carry on with what Bernie believes needs to be done to defeat Trump?
AGAIN, So ask yourself why you are unable to let it go, if Bernie isn't really a factor any longer why are you dedicating so much time and effort towards him?
YouDig
(2,280 posts)saying he's not a factor. He's not a factor when it comes to the Democratic nomination, Hillary won that one, but he can certainly be a big help to Trump.
And if Bernie thinks that refusing to concede and endorse, and criticizing the Democratic party is the way to help defeat Trump, he is dumber than I thought.
HumanityExperiment
(1,442 posts)Bernie is his own man, if you believe he's not a man of his word then that's on you to prove
His history on keeping his word is easily available...
if you want to throw around the term 'dumb' you may want to factor in this question 'ask yourself why you are unable to let it go, if Bernie isn't really a factor any longer why are you dedicating so much time and effort towards him?'
YouDig
(2,280 posts)And it's hard to believe you still don't get that Bernie can be a factor helping Trump in the general without being a factor in Democratic primary. Is it really so complicated?
HumanityExperiment
(1,442 posts)the only 'complication' is your continued attempt with the narrative you're trying to foist here
again... ask yourself why you are unable to let it go, if Bernie isn't really a factor any longer why are you dedicating so much time and effort towards him?

(10,565 posts)Only a long litany of complaints. He is an anger and envy merchant. The fact he only had 218,000 viewers for his ballyhooed streaming speech shows how few of his supporters are committed. He lost a lot of leverage last night.

(880 posts)Step 2B is for rank and file Democrats, including on DU, to discuss issues using critical thought and comparison of policy options rather than snark. It shouldn't take Sanders for Step 2B - that's on you.
YouDig
(2,280 posts)But annoying those very Democratic officeholders by refusing to concede and endorse is not going to accomplish that. If anything, it will make them more resistant to working with Bernie in the future.
Here on DU, Berners are loving the fact that elected Dems and the DNC are getting annoyed with Bernie, just out of personal animosity towards the party. But annoying the people you need is not a good way to forward your policy agenda.
jonestonesusa
(880 posts)The Sanders campaign earned 40% plus support among Dem primary voters because it focused on the issue positions that are supported by a majority of Democrats and passionately advocated by many liberal Democrats for decades, only to get the back of the hand as the mainstream party trots out Dukakis, Kerry, Mondale, and every other milktoast moderate that can be found. Officeholders are going to have to live with the fact that a large percentage of the rank and file voters are dissatisfied with the current direction of the party. And why wouldn't they be, given the gravity of the issues faced and sad fact that Hillary Clinton, after running for president for 25 years, still polls only 8-12% better than a certified lunatic? Sitting down and shutting up serves no purpose whatsoever. This fight about the values of the Democratic party is way overdue and we are all better off having it, in the short run and the long run.
YouDig
(2,280 posts)lost, and by a lot. The intramural fight is over, and Bernie lost it. Now comes the fight against Trump.
I don't see any way that Bernie holding out an endorsement gets any of his policies any closer to reality. And by helping Trump in the meantime, he gets his policies further away from reality.
Just saying that he wants to "fight" against the Democratic Party doesn't mean much. Especially if he actually cares about the issues. If he only wants to scold mainstream Dems for being too centrist, well, yeah, he gets to do that now, and a lot of his supporters really like that. But getting progress on issues is a whole different thing.
And by the way, the thing stopping the progress is the GOP, not the Dems. Something Bernie would figure out pretty quick if he became president.
