2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe my way or the highway of the pure ..Sanders blew it
Bernie Sanders did not win the Democratic nomination..but he had a hell of a chance to leave a legacy.. and instead.. like so many who insist on purity of thought.. my way or the highway.. no compromise need apply.. he blew it ..
But then you have to be a part of something to make change..not just hammer it from a distance..
I don't know.. maybe he will find his way to being a part of the party he tried to lead..but my guess is if it keeps going as such.. not much of a chance.

(58,785 posts)Make a "symbolic" candidacy with the Green Party? I don't exactly blame him for using the Democratic Party and even for trying to take it over (he's always been something of an extremist--should we be surprised?!), though I do think poorly of him for being so self-deluded as to think he could.
The worst thing I know about Sanders, though, because I believe he does truly despise liberals and Democrats, seeing them as little better than conservatives, is that he kept an extremely cushy and well paid j in Congress by voting with the Democrats over 96% of the time on average for a quarter century. His voting record, with its long-term subjugation of principle to self interest, is almost completely unexamined. We certainly had better things to do than use it to reveal that he does not deserve his reputation for integrity.
The reputation he deserves is for being intractably committed to his narrow ideology. T
That said, I STILL feel we needed a message generally like his and that his candidacy has done far more good for the Democratic Party than bad. I wish people would not let his petty insults and threats distract from the important reality that we do need to substantially improve ourselves. He may be far too flawed to be able to contribute much more than criticism, but we also shouldn't dismiss his reminder of what are really just traditional liberal concerns that we really need to re-commit ourselves to.

(12,448 posts)When these campaigns started I always supported Hillary but I respected Sanders; I thought he had something to add to the process. Unfortunately all his legacy will be is the image of a wagging finger and a tired stump speech. The time has passed when he could have gracefully and graciously conceded and declared support for the Democratic nominee. Instead we're left with the odor of sour grapes.

(25,699 posts)Isn't it a little strange to have braille text in a purely visual medium? I'll admit, I don't know if readers read braille like standard text (I guess they might?) but the idea seems a little strange overall.

(25,699 posts)Alright, you tainted goofballs, let's do this. You dislike purity so much, sure thing, let's talk compromise.
These are the people you will be compromising with:
Now. You need to come up with two lists.
1) A list of things you want out of Republicans like those pictured.
2) a list of who you are willing to sell out, screw over, and let the Republicans have their way with to achieve what's on list #1. Be sure to set priority; i.e., if you're willing to sell off gay rights before you're willing to toss out the right to choose, put it first.
There. Do that, and then you can say shit about "purity." Be honest about yourself and your plans.
I have no idea what you could hope to gain from wheeling and dealing with Republicans, but I know damn well what it'll cost - it probably won't cost YOU, of course, which I guess is the whole point...

(62,269 posts)Four months of total garbage. I truly believed, naively, that we could have a good spirited debate on the issues, that we could support both candidates but prefer one over the other, that we could have mutual respect, etc.
What a joke.

I hope that Bernie endorses Hillary and begins to work on the movement that he started before it loses all momentum as movements tend to do after the election.

(14,524 posts)... why the hell are you Hillarians posting post after post after post after post bashing Senator Sanders and telling everyone "it's over?"
You don't sound too damn sure of yourselves.

(14,524 posts)... telling 44% of voting Democrats to shut the fuck up and be brought to heel isn't the best way "to move to the general." Don't listen to what's important to us and OUR families. Do your little victory dance and pretend you've actually won something. (Like this is a gawddamn sporting event.)
But go ahead, keep doing what you are, then let me know much you enjoyed winning the battle only to lose the war.
