2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAre they done counting in California yet?
I just want to know if and when they will be done counting in that state.
I also want to know when I am allowed to say that Hillary Clinton won California and have that not be a controversial statement.

(1,820 posts)Officially you have to wait till July 8, 2016. See if you can do it without exploding.
Just be sure to make it as nasty and rude as possible so you can climb the ranks of Hillary Supporters.
EDITED TO PROVIDE REAL INFORMATION:
Election results are updated as often as new data is received from county elections offices after the polls close at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Many ballots are counted after Election Day. County elections officials have approximately one month to complete their extensive tallying, auditing, and certification work. They must report final certified results to the Secretary of State by July 8, 2016.

(4,494 posts)Clinton has 2,513,709, Sanders has 2,053,342, and there are an estimated 1,201,395 left to count. Sanders needs to get 71% of the remaining votes to win.
However, as a result of her other wins the last couple of weeks, Clinton only needs 17% of California to win the pledged delegate majority; since she already has 43% even if every uncounted vote goes to Sanders, the question is largely academic, IMO.

(108,977 posts)The majority are probably Democratic votes, but there are also Republican, unaffiliated (and not voting Democratic), and the American Independent Party.
