Down with the status quo that has accepted the gun crazies for too long. I am glad to see the new fire in the Democrats. Thanks Sen Sanders for helping awaken the Progressive voice.

Did not need Sen. Sanders.

John Robert Lewis (born February 21, 1940) is an American politician and civil rights leader. He is the U.S. Representative for Georgia's 5th congressional district, serving since 1987, and is the dean of the Georgia congressional delegation. The district includes the northern three-quarters of Atlanta.

Lewis is the only living "Big Six" leader of the Civil Rights Movement, having been the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), playing a key role in the struggle to end legalized racial discrimination and segregation. A member of the Democratic Party, Lewis is a member of the Democratic leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives and has served as a Chief Deputy Whip since 1991 and Senior Chief Deputy Whip since 2003.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lewis_(Georgia_politician)

The son of an Alabama sharecropper, and now a sixth-term United States Congressman, John Lewis has led an extraordinary life, one that found him at the epicenter of the civil rights movement in the late '50s and '60s. As Chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Lewis was present at all the major battlefields of the movement. Arrested more than forty times and severely beaten on several occasions, he was one of the youngest yet most courageous leaders. Written with charm, warmth, and honesty, Walking with the Wind offers rare insight into the movement and the personalities of all the civil rights leaders-what was happening behind the scenes, the infighting, struggles, and triumphs. Lewis takes us from the Nashville lunch counter sit-ins to the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, where he led more than five hundred marchers on what became known as "Bloody Sunday." While there have been exceptional books on the movement, there has never been a front-line account by a man like John Lewis. A true American hero, his story is "destined to become a classic in civil rights literature." (Los Angeles Times)

there is a Progressive Movement and we are seeing evidence. Why would you object to such a movement? We are fighting to drive Big Money influence out of government. You agree with that I hope.

is exactly what Bernie was talking about. His opposition would mock him when they asked how are you going to get things done?
There is a crowd outside, and is growing as time goes on.

This is what he was talking about. We as a people rise up peacefully and demand they do their job.
Too bad some want to deny it. Bernie didn't invent it, he just remembered what it was like, how effective it was and how effective it still can be.

Not to take any thunder from John Lewis, as he is a strong leader, but this sit in idea was brought to him by Katherine Clark.

Bernie didn't push for the Dems to protest. He wasn't even there the first day.
None of his platform is new. Dems have been fighting for a long time for Progressive values and the constant giving Bernie undue credit is a slap in the face to all of us who have worked over the last few decades.

2013

U.S. Rep. john Lewis, D-Atlanta, and seven other Democratic congressman were arrested today outside the Capitol in Washington, D.C., during an immigration protest.

According to Lewis' office, the civil rights icon was arrested at approximately 4:15 p.m. Buzzfeed reports that Lewis and fellow Congressmen Joe Crowley, Raul Grijalva, Luis Gutierrez, Jan Schakowsky, Keith Ellison, Al Green, Charlie Rangel joined more than 100 activists and started a "peaceful sit-in blocking a street in the front of the Capitol." The protest was part of the Camino Americano Rally for Immigrant Dignity and Respect, an effort to restart immigration reform in Congress.

Lewis has been placed in handcuffs "at least" 45 times, his spokeswoman says. He was arrested more than 40 times during the Civil Rights Movement. Since serving in Congress, he's been arrested five times.

"He was arrested twice at the South African embassy protesting apartheid, twice at the Embassy of the Sudan protesting genocide in Darfur and today he was arrested to demand dignity and respect for immigrants," his office said.

To fucking sweep the GOP scourge out of congress.

The sooner we're rid of them across the board, the sooner we can begin to get progressive bills passed. And Bernie can help shape what we put forth.
