2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo Trump's mother was a Scottish immigrant? Was she ever undocumented?
Just wondering.
It still boggles my mind how people who are first, second or even third generation citizens of immigrant parents can work so hard to disenfranchise and be against the millions of Native Americans and children of the generations of the first slave crossings.

It still boggles my mind how people who are first, second or even third generation citizens of immigrant parents can work so hard to prevent people from other countries from having the same opportunities that their ancestors had.
While immigration is a complex issue and the Federal policies need attentive modulation, the US is almost exclusively a country of immigrants. We should honor our forebears' efforts to provide a better life for their families- all of us- by welcoming freedom-seeking immigrants.

(22,034 posts)That's a fine point you've made, FSogol and I agree. When I'm asked my background, usually say, "American," as my extended family- from all over Europe- has been in the US for at least three generations.
It's still early in the morning so forgive me for my inarticulateness! Obviously, I meant "very few Americans can claim their families are native to this land."
Have a wonderful weekend.

(22,034 posts)Rather than honoring his mother by illustrating how she represents the American dream, he tries to obfuscate his own heritage. He should be proud of his family's success in our great country.
I wouldn't believe Donald Trump if he told me that I breathe air.
