In 1993, Republicans bullied Janet Reno into appointing an Independent Counsel

which she did in an effort to prove how impartial and fair she was. And when they ran the first Independent Counsel out, she appointed Ken Starr, a noted Republican partisan, again to show just how fair and impartial this investigation would be. And then when he asked for an expansion of his jurisdiction far beyond the original Whitewater matter, she again said yes because, after all, she had to prove how fair and impartial she was.

We remember how that all worked out . . .

This is a gambit that Democrats fall for time after time. That's exactly what's happening here in this bogus tarmac conversation "outrage."

Democrats - please don't be Charlie Brown and try to kick that footbal again. Keep your eyes on the REAL ball.

1. The Independent Counsel law has expired.

By law, an independent counsel had to be appointed in 1993. That has not been the case for many years now.

2. You missed my point

I wasn't saying that this situation has anything to do with an Independent Counsel. My point is that Democrats keep falling over themselves trying to prove that they're fair to the point of shooting themselves in the foot and playing right into Republican hands.

4. My only problem with what Reno did WAS the appointment of Ken Starr.

She DID allow herself to be bullied.

5. Ken Starr wasn't appointed by Janet Reno

The way the law worked at the time, Congress could vote to appoint a special prosecutor, and the prosecutor would be appointed by a court.

Ken Starr was appointed by the DC Circuit Court of Appeals pursuant to an act of Congress.

Janet Reno did not appoint Ken Starr.

Where on earth did you get the idea that Janet Reno appointed Ken Starr? I would love to know where this sort of misinformation comes from.

10. Not directly relevant

Robert Fiske was appointed by Janet Reno at the behest of Bill Clinton in 1993.

There was no requirement that he be appointed.

Ken Starr, on the other hand, was appointed by the DC Court of Appeals in 1994 pursuant to an act of Congress under the law in question.

But that law is neither here nor there in relation to the appointment of Fiske in the first place.

7. this is obviously about Republicans asking for an

Independent counsel being appointed to investigate Hillary.

We would have never found ourselves in this situation if Bill had just waited for the FBI to submit their findings. But instead, he had to go and do something stupid.

8. Bill Clinton made the decision to have Janet Reno ask for an Independent Counsel.

The administration wanted to put out the media firestorm over Whitewater and he went along with the people advising him to have the AG ask for an Independent Counsel.

9. You're pissing against the wind

As noted above, there are people who think Reno appointed Ken Starr.

Your insistence on "facts" is irrelevant to the chosen reality.
