2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumComey will testify Thursday morning re: investigation
The head of the House Oversight Committee is calling the director of the FBI to testify before the panel this week, on the heels of Republican outrage over his decision not to recommend charges against Hillary Clinton.
Director James Comey will testify Thursday morning, Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said in a statement Wednesday.
Individuals who intentionally skirt the law must be held accountable. Congress and the American people have a right to understand the depth and breadth of the FBIs investigation, Chaffetz said in a statement.
I thank Director Comey for accepting the invitation to publicly answer these important questions.

(62,444 posts)Comey is a staunch Republican.
He is the next one of their own which they are going to eat.
He tried as hard as he could to throw a political bone to his own side, but I'm sure he expected that he would be taken at his word that there was not enough evidence to warrant a prosecution.
The problem is that he does not realize that "not enough evidence" means that they haven't looked hard enough. But Comey had every reason to make sure that if there was a prosecutable offense, then it would be found.
So now he has to (a) defend his decision while (b) try to preserve the crumbs he handed them, and which now have been thrown back in his face.
This is going to be a hoot!

(11,175 posts)I don't care enough to go find a link, but I remember reading that some Republican had called for a special prosecutor as soon as Comey issued his report.
The good news for the GOP is that Ken Starr is newly unemployed and could step right into the gig.

Comey won't have much time to answer questions. The Reps will all be waxing eloquent for their constituents.
