Hillary Clinton asked NSA for secure phone for email when she first took office, was turned down

By Daily News Bin | July 6, 2016

One day after the FBI Director criticized Hillary Clinton for her use of email while Secretary of State, even as he made clear that no charges would be appropriate, it’s now coming to light that Clinton actually went to great effort to obtain more secure email devices but was turned down by other agencies. Weeks after being sworn in at State, she asked the NSA for a secure smartphone upon which she could conducted her email, but the request was repeatedly denied.

Oddly enough, evidence of Hillary Clinton’s great effort at acquiring a secure government smartphone was unwittingly uncovered when Judicial Watch, a right wing entity whose primary purpose has been to keep democrats tied up in frivolous lawsuits so they can’t govern, sued to force her emails to be publicly released. Among them is the February 2009 exchange in which Hillary Clinton’s office requested a secure BlackBerry similar to the one that had been provided to President Obama – but her requests were repeatedly declined.

After the NSA turned down her request for a secure smartphone for email, and her staff determined that the existing State Department technology infrastructure was nonexistent for such tasks, Clinton ultimately decided to get down to work by installing her own fully functional email server and tying it into her own BlackBerry for email. This paints an entirely different picture than the supposedly “careless” behavior alleged by the FBI Director. Instead, Hillary Clinton immediately tried to go through official channels to get her hands on official government technology that would allow her communicate effectively via email, and after being railroaded in those efforts, only turned to setting up her own system out of professional necessity.

This calls into further question whether the FBI Director was out of bounds when he offered his scathing personal critique of Hillary Clinton’s email usage even while admitting that he had absolutely nothing to charge her over. Either he lacked an accurate picture of the circumstances under which she was forced to rely on her own email server, or he ignored them while trying to send a political message. CBS News has more on Hillary’s attempt at securing a government smartphone.

And usually people don't get fired for it. Most of the time the company catches up

It's been ludicrous to watch those with an agenda apply a microscope to every perceived flaw. "See? See? SHE'S NOT PERFECT!"

to keep her BlackBerry phone that seems to have driven the personal server. I thought if there was anything that might be an issue from a legal point that the BlackBerry would be one possibility. People forget that all traffic to and from Research in Motion products goes throught Canada. The NSA finally figured out how to secure President Obama's phone, as I understand it his phone never even hits a regular cell tower. Apparently the effort was more than they were willing to do for Secretary of State. Going rogue wasn't a good decision no matter how you try to paint it.

There's a reason Hillary was denied that BlackBerry

So what is the reason Clinton was not given a 'Blackberry-like' phone, which is what she requested?

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/emails-show-nsa-rejected-hillary-clinton-request-for-secure-smartphone/

"We began examining options for (Secretary Clinton) with respect to secure 'BlackBerry-like' communications," wrote Donald R. Reid, the department's assistant director for security infrastructure. "The current state of the art is not too user friendly, has no infrastructure at State, and is very expensive."

Reid wrote that each time they asked the NSA what solution they had worked up to provide a mobile device to Obama, "we were politely told to shut up and color."

But with the ineffectiveness of State (because Congress won't fully fund...well anything other than the military), it's understandable to me why efforts were made to circumvent the red tape.
