2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Republicans Got Nothing!
They're going to try to beat Hillary Clinton, now, by attacking the Republican FBI Director for rightly finding no evidence to prosecute Hillary. They're starting on the "Eat Your Own" project before their convention even convenes. They're going to choke on that meal, I predict.
Here's what they're NOT saying:
Anything about their presumptive nominee. Nothing. Zilch. Silence.
They got nothing! No candidate they can champion. Even the Republicans don't like Trump. They know that he's poison for the GOP. They know that he will self-destruct long before the November election. They know he'll never be President. They know that like they know the noses on their faces.
So, what are they doing to try to compensate? They're posturing for their right-wing constituency in a desperate attempt to keep their phony baloney jobs. Everyone in the House hast to stand for election this year. They're scared. They're worried that Trump's wackadoo, loose cannon personality will bring them down, too. And well they might be frightened.
They can't campaign for Trump. All they can do is attack. And they're now about to attack one of their own, FBI Director Comey, who has been on the hunt for something to hang on Clinton for years and years. They are that desperate. They are about to fill their pants, en masse.
They got nothing!

(7,810 posts)on any significant issue/topic...environment, guns, economic philosophy, safety nets, education, taxes, etc. Through marketing and 24/7pissing on dems they can often turn people against a particular person or topic (Obama, public option, etc), but if you strip association with a person away from the policy the public goes back to supporting the actual dem policy.
I really wish dems would stick to issues and the difference between horrendous gop policies/results and dem policies. Makes me nervous to put all eggs in one basket and contrast one dem candidate with one gop candidate, focusing on the horse race alone....because IMO it's likely the gop candidate won't be around in a month.

(16,423 posts)Voters want a candidate who is strong. Somebody who can assure them to get shit done.
Voters want a party that is united in purpose. A party that can get shit done.
Running away from Obama and running away from Trump are exactly the wrong signal. These are signs of weakness, division, impotence.
Candidate Trump is bad news. And the infighting of the GOP is making bad news worse. Infighting is a big turn-off for voters.

(15,445 posts)And now, Comey is saying: "A lot of my so-called friends are out there saying they would've recommended prosecution in this case.
Well, I'd like to see their record over the past 40 years, and how many such cases they have prosecuted successfully."

(146,255 posts)I'm not sure what the GOOPers expected him to do, really. I don't like Comey much at all, but he's a pro. He's going to answer questions like the pro he is, I'm sure. He won't bend and he won't break. Not for that crowd of House yahoos.

(1,442 posts)the comparison between the HRC march press conference and the FBI press conference shows the trust issue in crystal clear detail
the 'other side' had an easy softball to drive a narrative, but they have issue of their own with their candidate...
all this leads to this
http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/americans-distaste-for-both-trump-and-clinton-is-record-breaking/
but yet NONE of this is allowed to be debated here on DU... it's actively dismissed, or worse suppressed
either folks deal with the facts and reality or suffer the consequences

(146,255 posts)But, that's not what my OP was about at all. So, I'm going to resist moving this thread off-track. You can start one of your own.
HumanityExperiment
(1,442 posts)you posted that...
that's what I was responding to, you made the pivot to 'by attacking the Republican FBI Director', I linked the comical bit on the reality of the facts
BOTH candidates have monumentally historic unfavorables, this just adds to that pile
Why would you NOT want to discuss this and try to correct and reverse the trend and make HRC more favorable?
MineralMan
(146,255 posts)You're trying to make it about Hillary Clinton. As I said, you can start your own thread if you want.

(1,442 posts)I also linked an article that talked about BOTH candidate's historic unfavorables...
I get that you're unwilling to debate issues that you consider detrimental to HRC, instead you'd rather create an insulated 'bubble' that disallows objective discussion let alone debates on the facts
Why is that?

This fiasco is reminiscent of the Repubs swift-boating John Kerry. Totally rabid lies and BS, relentlessly delivered.
Let's hope that this fiasco has a different outcome.

Watch out. Trump is tapping into something wide, deep and dark. The racism, antisemitism, violence and such are the world's sleeping giant, and he is spanking that snoozing monster for all its worth.
In a halfway reasonable world, Clinton should be much further ahead in the polls. That's a criticism of the world, not Clinton.

(12,958 posts)Their whole schtick is to seed and spread doubt about the opposing candidate. Generally through swift boating tactics, while their candidate stays above the fray. It has been their formula for decades.
Their problem with Trump is he cannot stay above the fray for more than 15 minutes.

(11,553 posts)This woman has been scrutinized to the ninth degree and they have got nothing! Who else could withstand this much investigation and come up clean? For her whole adult life and career, too.
Obviously Hillary Clinton is more qualified than ever, or like Pres. Obama says "more qualified than anyone ever" to be POTUS.
I would love to see what would happen if the Republicans held the standards they hold HC up to--to themselves.
We should all thank our lucky stars we have her, too!
