Fact check: No, the State Department is not re-investigating Hillary Clinton’s email

Two days after the FBI announced that Hillary Clinton violated no laws with her use of email and that no charges of any kind should be filed, and one day after the Attorney General announced that she was accepting the FBI’s recommendation and officially ending the entire saga, several major news outlets are now declaring in their headlines that the State Department has opened a new investigation into her emails. This is a blatantly false, and arguably intentionally false, representation of the facts involved.

The actual facts of the story read far differently. The State Department had placed its own internal review of employee email usage on hold for the duration of the FBI/DOJ investigation, pending its conclusion. Now that it’s officially finished, State is doing what it said all along that it would do: it’s finishing up its internal review.

With the FBI having already affirmed that Hillary Clinton violated no laws regarding her use of classified email, the State Department will invariably come to the same conclusion. Some news outlets are making the hypothetical insistence that she or her staff could somehow be banned from ever touching classified information again or other such nonsense, but seeing how they’ve already been cleared by the FBI, that has 0.0% chance of happening. Apart from a possible (meaningless) reprimand for her or her staffers, there is no actual jeopardy involved. Nothing is being re-investigated. Nothing new is happening. Nothing is happening that wasn’t already long ago announced would happen on this schedule.

And yet the sensationalistic reporting continues tonight unabated. Remarkably, some major news outlets are using their headlines to create the false impression that this is some kind of new investigation or new development, and then going on to explain in the latter stages of their own articles that this is a routine procedural development that was factored in all along.

already ongoing, on hold ivestigation and I could not believe the poster felt that justifiable to attack and diss Lynch. Which seemed to be what the thread was all about, declaring Lynch weak and all that is evil. Amazing how every woman's voice (and yea that we have so many of them) get so unjustly attacked as LIAR, or WEAK, or SHRILL.

Reading the link left me asking the poster... Really?

While Clinton was not charged with criminal charges, the FBI director said that if it was his dept., if she was an employee there might be administrative actions taken anywhere between dismissal or a letter of reprimand put in file. The State Dept. while not pursuing criminal charges could take administrative actions such as a letter regarding future access to classified information in a file regardless of whether they are current or former employees. Is that correct?
