The Republican Party Is Reaping Its Own Harvest

Back in the 1990s, the Republican Party, led by people like Newt Gingrich, took a new direction. It became the "anti-government" party. It began to govern through obstructionism, rather than through cooperative negotiation. As time passed, it continued to grow less and less productive and more and more obstructive. As it did, its constituency changed, little by little.

We saw the Tea Party become the base of the Party. Libertarianism became the driving force among party rank and file members. Less government and a burning hatred for all things connected with federal government became the primary propaganda disseminated by party leadership, because it got votes.

Now, the Republican Party is harvesting the crop it sowed back in the 1990s. Donald Trump, the least suitable candidate for President ever brought before the nation, epitomizes that contempt for government. From a field of 17 candidates, the voters selected an orange-haired moron who doesn't even have policies to bring to the table. His only issue is a thumb in the eye of everything political. His jingoistic, isolationist, racist, anti-government stance appealed to the audience the Republican Party has been cultivating for all those years.

The seeds were planted. The fields were fertilized and irrigated. Now, the crop is ripe. Now, the Republican Party has Donald Trump to show for all that hard work. Trouble is that he hates Republican Party leadership just as much as he hates everyone else who is not him or a toady to him.

Enjoy the bitter taste of what you have grown, GOP. You grew it. Now, eat it. Your crop is poisonous, but it's the fruit of your efforts, so grab your forks and dig in!

Hillary 2016!

"government should be run like a business." Who better to show what that REALLY means than the lying, cheating, self-absorbed train wreck that is Donald Trump?

BTW - when I was a lad, the saying was that anyone could grow up to be president. At least that's what they told we kids. I knew the worm had turned with the Rs when Reagan averred that he still believed this was a country where anyone could become a millionaire.

Priorities.

from the House in shame, after being shown to be a far worse person than the man he tried to take down. How can we not remember that? Sociopathy appears to be the hallmark of Republican leadership, overall. How can we not all go to the polls and cry "Enough!" with our votes.

If Democratic turnout is not enormous in 2016, I can't do anything but abandon hope for our nation. We must come together to make the Republican Party extinct.

I'm still disgusted and sickened to this day of his firing of the air traffic controllers. I consider it a miracle that this country somehow survived the alzheimer idiot.
The total demise of the Re-Puke party can't come soon enough for me.
When it happens, I will pop a cork and toast to their final, fiery flame-out! Cheers...you fuckers!

a very small percentage of republicans that really walk the walk. We can keep pointing that out. There is no end to the opportunities.

One friend of mine is a prime example. Made his way through college as a single dad, of course taking advantage of every government program available. He then landed a great job with Microsoft at just the right time. He did well for himself and was able to retire early. It wasn't just all him though. I healthy amount of his salary and all the value of all those stock splits that got him where he is today, were courtesy of all of us taxpayers! Government might not be able to do much of anything right, but it can buy a shitload of computer software! That's just fine by him!

I just have an average Joe type job in the medical field, working for a blood center. I make pretty good money at it. I have no way of really knowing how much of my checks are tax dollars or from people's Medicare deductions. It has to be significant though, just like everyone else in the medical field. Take away Medicare and Medicaid patients, government employees with tax payer paid benefits, retired government and military personnel and many of us would be working a lot less if we got to keep our jobs at all. Point that out to some right-winger that is a nurse next time you get the chance.

When William Bennett announced that the government should be getting out of the education business my immediate thought was that the country was putting a gun to its head. W's ascendancy seemed to be, in some respects, a trial balloon to assess the malleability of the under-educated. In collaborating with Murdoch-type media that relies on the viewership of those who seek only the validation of old prejudices, today's Republican party is little more than a celebration of the dark power of ignorance. And Trump's candidacy is the vulgar showpiece of their effort. Republicans deem it counterproductive to seek the support of the knowledgeable.

I watched Reagan dismantle the social stability in California earlier, too. The damage done was enormous, and is still reverberating in our society. Rebuilding that stability and network will be a major challenge. It will take time to recover from the Republicans' raping of the nation. We can't delay any longer, and should have delayed this long.
