do we think the platform is really going to mean anything going forward? What has its role been in the past in terms of really being pushed and followed after the election?

7. It shows that Democrats are no longer running away from liberal ideas.

The right wing succeeded in making the word "liberal" a pejorative invective. Democrats have been running from the word for 20 years.

I think a liberal platform that is openly acknowledged as liberal is step in the right direction. Let's take the word back and be who we are.

12. couldn't have said it better

The Democratic nominee just stood on stage with Democratic Socialist. The party is officially of the Left now. Does that mean HRC is going to please all progressives all the time. Doubtful. But Bernie has been a tipping point for the party's re-embrace of outright liberalism/progressivism. Obama helped get us there (more on social issues than anything.)

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES "Let's take the word back and be who we are"!!!!

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!

NO more shitting on the word "liberal."

NO more speaking the word with a curled lip (as ghwb did at one CONvention years ago - I believe in 1988 when he won his party's nomination).

NO more equating the word "liberal" with all things bad.

NO more pussyfooting around it - which many of us felt compelled to do because the bad guys had done such a thorough job shitting all over it.

I'm a LIBERAL, dammit. DEAL with it. And TOO DAMN BAD if anyone doesn't like it.

They supported what they saw as insurgency. Plus, Sanders was the one who was nose to nose with the Girl during the primaries. The 9% still have the same goal: don't help the Girl win.

And they are probably the types of voters responsible for the Republican wave of 1996, who previously voted Democratic on economic issues.

Those who insist they'll never vote for Hillary, who collected in the Bernie camp maybe just to stir shit up, were likely never going to vote even for Bernie in the first place.

There are a lot of folks out there claiming 40-60% of Bernie supporters will vote for Trump.

Yeah, Denial ain't just a river in Egypt. Anybody who really supports Bernie will have nothing to do with that rich asshole. Many might go 3rd Party and that's their right, but I expect on the order of 70% + to back the Dems this fall. That will be enough.

ONE poll alone is generally a strong indicator of nothing.

The very few miscreants (it will be less than 9%) who would do such a thing were never Democrats. They are the perennial cranks and malcontents who are irrational, unrealistic and unreliable.

AND, if they are voting for Trump they're fucking idiots too. Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say.

To answer your question, I think it would be people who, as their single most important issue, are sick of pay-to-play politics, and naively believe that voting for a "self funded" candidate is a way to thumb their nose at the establishment.

33. Amen to that!

I only donated once to Bernie, but was damn well going to do it if he was our nominee, or if he ran up debt that needed to be paid off. I did puchase a few tee- shirts.

I'm a man of very modest means. For me, $50 is $50 I don't have for groceries; but now I plan to donate that $50 to our Democratic candidate for the House who will hopefully EASILY unseat Jamie Herrera-Butler out, a spineless teabagger rubber stamp. Brian Baird put his tail between his legs and quit at the end of his term, and that worthless representative moved to Washington on our behalf for the last four years. Worthless.

One representatve at a time; one senator at a time! We need to win Congress back and take the leaderships and platforms away from the likes of chaffetz, gohmert, issa, and all the rest of these conspiracy chasing idiots.

Yes..."give me back my country's government" from these witch chasing obstructionist clowns.

40. It's called bargaining power

and Hillary Clinton fans had better understand it because they're going to need it down the line, too.

It has worked out as I hoped from the beginning, Sanders gathering enough support (and the amount surprised even me) to be able to force a more progressive agenda onto party conservatives.

Did he get all we wanted? HELL NO, nobody ever does.

That's how politics works, though. She needed his support and his voters. He was working for us.

Walk into your boss's office and demand control over your working hours and how much he pays you.

See what I mean?

Now do it as the head of your union.

See what I mean?

Sanders held out until he'd gotten enough of his agenda passed to make a difference. He was able to do that because he'd beaten her in quite a few states and come very close in others.

67. Maybe our issue is that the Dems of recent history offer up weak policies to

appease the GOP, which of course never works and so the weak right-leaning policies become further right leaning policies. I know that I would prefer strongly progressive policies to be put out there, THEN work with the GOP to carve out a compromise. This is the entire point of drafting and crafting legislation.
