2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI'm really liking this Hillary speech
She seems animated, committed, authentic. I love the way she includes Bernie in many of her proposals - attributes to him many ideas and positions. She just strongly came out against TPP.
Ready to switch my affinity. Sending $$ soon.

(58,440 posts)Keep Bernie and Liz where they are, hounding Repubs into doing the right things.
Note to Bernie supporters: as a committee chairman with a lot of tenure in the Senate, Bernie would be in a powerful position to continue the fight and hold Hillary's feet to the fire.

(26,177 posts)Most of my dreams are unrealistic. I thought maybe Julian Castro would be a consideration, but that name seems to have fallen off of every list I've seen, lately.
I hope the enthusiasm becomes contagious.

(6,716 posts)and I mean it sincerely. We really do need to band together to ensure we can get everything we can out of this election.
Primaries are hard. We become invested in our candidates and if doesn't pan out, it is emotionally devastating. The thing that matters the most is that we can all pick ourselves up and fight for the greater good.

(40,416 posts)I especially liked his promise to go on the stump with/for Hillary. If he does that, we are going to steam roll the GOP this year. And I have no doubt that he will honor his word.
The roller is building up steam. Get ready to be flattened, Drumpf.
It is a great day for the Democratic Party!

(41,915 posts)Bernie now has to find out what it's been like to be her, to have people vilify you not because of the truth but because of what they're mad about and the lies they've been told.
I hope they BOTH get all the support they need to help us.

(31,061 posts)not meaning to take away anything from Clinton, but it's the reason I supported Sanders early on -- to bring discussion of climate change, single-payer, SCOTUS appointments, living wages, etc. to the national stage. Not that Clinton wouldn't have. But to hear her today was to hear her speak of these things with greater passion and conviction than I had heard before.
I just hope it energizes a lot of these Sanders millennials to get off their asses and vote for all Democrats in November.

(80,699 posts)But Bernie adds more muscle to it. Plus, it's a TERRIFIC symbol of much-needed unity and reconciliation and respect and congeniality.
We've needed this!!!
AND I'm hoping that when he runs for reelection in 2018 - which is one of those damned dreaded midterm elections where Democrats tend to get lazy and apathetic and indifferent - Dems will turn out again, like gangbusters. He can serve REALLY righteously to further that end. He can be a leader of leaders on that score. That's been our problem - the midterm elections come and more people sit home and don't care or don't see any point in it. AND THAT'S SO DAMN WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We can't EVER let up. We can't EVER let our guard down. We can't EVER just stay home and not bother. It's too important to stay in there and be counted! And let our voices be heard because we make our votes count! That was the problem in 2010 - that allowed the damn teabaggers to get in and run amok and screw things up so badly. Again in 2014.
DEMOCRATS HAVE TO-HAVE TO-HAVE TO get out there and vote. EVERY DAMN TIME! No matter how seemingly "insignificant" the election. It's not enough just to show up to vote for President. It's all the OTHER races and campaigns that build the infrastructure to support that President! I hope by now we've seen enough evidence to prove how important it is not to take ANY election for granted, and not to stay home when it's so critically important to go vote. Because there are more of us than there are of the bad guys and when we turn out, just by the strength of our larger numbers, WE WIN.
As President Obama has said many times - "don't boo. VOTE!"

(7,468 posts)Does she have to scream? She has a microphone--many in fact. She comes off as screaming-meemie. Someone please tell her to lower the screech level.
I have no comment on her speech. Away we go, let us all hope that the future brings something real, not just words and promises.

(41,915 posts)You come off as someone who can't even give an inch toward the positive that these speeches offer before you post in a whiny, irritating cyber-voice.
Now,do I really believe that and think you've got something wrong with you? Of course not. I don't know anything about you except what you've posted. I wouldn't actually believe your entire identity should be assumed from the tone of your post.
It's how she gives speeches. There's nothing wrong with it.

(7,468 posts)I watched her speech and had to turn down the volume. She was yelling, no question in my mind about that. I've been around a while, maybe too long. I have supported every Democrat since Kennedy. Don't blame me for no support. My comment was to bring forth the point that she does not have to yell to get the message across. I am not a big fan, no question about that. BUT: The more she talks, the more I cringe. Not the content so much as the presentation.
As to 'appropriate, what the heck? When DU, where I have been a member since 2005, takes after me for a comment about something as simple as this...well, I don't know what to say except...well, I don't know. Let us hope for a Democrat in the white house come November. One whose voice does not send shivers up my spine
I'm sorry if my comment offends some but sometimes, in my mind, certain comments are appropriate
PS: Was the vulgarity necessary? I'm of the old school. A point made is good, a point made with vulgarity is not really necessary.

(41,915 posts)I wondered if I could create some empathy for someone whose natural manner is criticized rather than their words, important words, heard and remarked on. Women catch the brunt of that and it sets us back.

(15,445 posts)I think it's very hard for them to judge the size of the venue and the acoutics of a big crowd.
And, when the crowd applauds or cheers over their lines, it's even harder to get the decibel level right.
We hear the sound directly off the mic, not what the crowd is hearing in the hall.

(1,638 posts)The other times I remember watching a candidate give a speech after an endorsement, it's mostly been "Thanks for the endorsement, now let me tell you how great I am." Granted, I'm probably thinking of GOP presidential nominees (Trump and Romney in particular). Clinton praised Sanders multiple times during the speech, and also kept bringing the focus back to the broader Democratic coalition. I can't recall another endorsement acceptance speech that felt so inclusive.
Beyond that, the substance was also impressive. Not just the policy (criticizing the TPP, saying we need to expand Social Security and not cut it, etc.), but also the political strategy (shining a light on governorships and state legislatures). Oh, and explicitly stating that the last 30 years of conservative voodoo economics has been a disaster. Yeah, it was a pretty great speech.
