2016 Postmortem

So let's start treating him like a team mate instead of the enemy.
The recitation of his campaign talking points with their relationship to Hillary were probably necessary to get most of his remaining supporters on board the Hillary bus. (
Plus he finally got around to praising her personally before he shut down his speech.
Turn away from the primaries and let's start putting all of our energy into winning the general election.

(20,317 posts)I mean, I assume you wouldn't praise such a person simply to appeal to more voters.
Before you dismiss this as sour grapes, I do have a point. I think we all need to remember this moment, as a good reason for not allowing the primary campaign to get as vitriolic as it has in recent history. That kind of campaigning leaves a mark that may not be easily reconciled later on.

(5,648 posts)Primaries are contentious - there are charges and counter charges, on both sides Some are true, some are miscommunications, and some are flat distortions of the truth - which fall in to which categories depends on who you are talking to. Supporters of candidates often go overboard. However, in the end it doesn't matter because that is all in the past.
If you had your feelings hurt and you simply can't get over it no matter how hard you try, or if you can't ever in good conscious support the Democratic nominee, there are other websites where you can posts. If, on the other had, it is simply going to take more time for you to adjust to the new reality, take what time you need; we will still be here.
But right now it is not the time to pull the scabs off of old wounds and re-fight the primaries. That is not in anyone's best interests.

(4,311 posts)I said his campaign didn't do enough to reach out to POC. I also said some of his most obnoxious supporters were misogynists and/or racists (Stockholm Syndrome was a low point). There's a difference between a candidate and his/her supporters. I will never apologise for calling out the racism and sexism some Bernie supporters displayed (an extremely vocal but ultimately very small minority). Those people are now gone here on DU, and Bernie himself has taken the extremely important step of a full-throated endorsement of Hillary, for which I express my thanks. There's no hypocrisy here.

(1,552 posts)Sometimes you can say sexist or racist things without even realizing it. For example, just the other week I was asked by a friend if I knew anyone who would do yard work. I immediately recommended by nephew but after he did the work my niece called me up and was talking about doing yard work. She actually does a better job on the yard so why did my mind go to him. Being that yard work is typically done by males I realized I was gender stereotyping. Iff I were you I would take the criticism and think about it if you think it may have merit, learn from it. If it doesn't have merit just discard it. But some people can feel like something is sexist even if you don't feel that it is.

I look forward to being able to work together to take down Dump and the Repuglican part!

PS:
Plus there were Hillary supporters I liked and am glad that we can work together again without this stick dividing us.
