2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHere's to Bernie and everything he accomplished.
What a great event. Great endorsement by Bernie, great speech by Hillary. Great enthusiasm from the crowd.
Bernie's supporters were right about the timing of the endorsement: he knew what he was doing. This wasn't an forced or rushed endorsement, he stayed in the race in order to influence the platform, and influence it in ways that many Hillary supporters, like myself, are happy about. The platform is the most progressive ever, and truly represents a great combination of the ideas and goals of both of the primary campaigns. You could tell that Bernie's endorsement was a proud and heartfelt one, he doesn't just see Hillary as the only way to stop Trump, he sees her as someone who will lead us in a bold progressive direction. It will go a long way towards unifying the party in November.
It's been a hotly contested campaign, and in the words of the great philosopher Kanye West, "Hey yo I did some things, but that's the old me." In that spirit, I'd like to express my admiration for everything Bernie has accomplished in the last year. He went from a small-state Senator that was not known by many people outside of Vermont other than political junkies like me, and grew into a household name who ran a record-breaking campaign. He's inspired millions of people to get involved in the political process, many of them young who will continue to fight for decades to come. He made democratic socialism cool, and taught the Democrats that they shouldn't be timid about turning left, there's fertile ground there. And he brought ideas like single payer and free college into the political mainstream.
Cheers, Bernie, it's great to be on your side! Looking forward to your convention speech and your further appearances on the campaign trail, of which I hope there will be many.

(39,351 posts)He made the most of the opportunity that was out there and put his whole being into it. It will go down as memorable, which is rare, not least because it had a healthy impact on the country.

(3,660 posts)A key mark of rationality is being able to integrate hopes and expectations which do not and are unlikely to align. I'm much more pleased with how well he did than disappointed with the falling short. Of course never buying into the Sanders = perfect Clinton = evil BS was a big help. I'd have been happy with O'Malley too and my only fear with Chaffee even would have been he couldn't buy an ounce of charisma with Trump's claimed, let alone real, wealth. Really couldn't lose this time around especially with the two main candidates. At the start of this I was thinking 30% would be a great showing.

(284 posts)I am holding my tongue until after the election, but the day after the election I plan on starting a tally, and every single broken campaign promise, every compromise without a fight, and worse; will be thrown back in your faces. Enjoy your general election mode while it lasts.

(11,495 posts)The "doom and gloom" response. You might try some positive thinking, it helps, and maybe not hang out at any of those Hillary hating sites, they can be bad for ones outlook!

(80,708 posts)I think we have Senator Sanders' advocacy- as well as that of prominent politicians like CA lt. Gov Newsom, of course- to thank for moving this matter front and center.
