The #GOPplatform opposes allowing women in combat. I have a question for the committee: where do you think I lost my legs - in a bar fight?

(6,716 posts)I completely trust her and respect not only her service to our country, but her impact in DC so far.

(3,289 posts)And I will certainly enjoy that. Tammy is a winner in every way you measure a person. Don't care much for Kirk. The little correspondence I had with his office was unsatisfying and just gave standard off the shelf republican responses.

(40,416 posts)Did anybody see her sitting in on the floor of the US House, having set aside her prosthetics and her wheel chair?
Pretty astounding pic.
Love her madly!

(81,110 posts)She'll make an OUTSTANDING Senator.
I put a rather large value on the endurance of suffering and adversity in life. People who didn't have it all handed to them (kinda like the bush family, for example). If someone's been through hell - physical sickness or disability, live combat, nonstop persecution, poverty, battering, difficulties that really test one's spirit and stamina, that very often gives them a strong sense of empathy. And if you presume to serve the public, as all elected officials do - they're PUBLIC SERVANTS, after all - seems to me you damn well better NOT have a heart like a BB. You better NOT just look at the price tag. You damn well better be able to empathize, because a lot of what you're called upon to do is represent, serve, and HELP those in your constituency who genuinely need help, or some external intervention - to force an improvement of some sort.
Few embody this like Tammy Duckworth does. She's been through a real baptism of fire, and it often forges a remarkably strong, resilient, and courageous character. We need more of that in the Senate. I admire her SO much! I hope she wins!

She is an incredible person and deserves a US Senate seat. I don't think I have seen a more brave and intelligent person in my lifetime.
Sorry for the D&D allusion. However, it is apt. That's why one has to love this future US Senator.
