By Jason Easley on Wed, Jul 13th, 2016 at 6:35 pmAs Donald Trump proclaimed to Fox that he is winning, Fox News made him look like an idiot by releasing a poll that showed Trump losing to Hillary Clinton.
Trump went on Special Report with Bret Baier and said, People think of me as an attacker, but Id rather be talking about policy. If we can take our campaign against Hillary Clinton and only talk about policy, not talking about Crooked Hillary and all of the things that were talking about, Id be very happy, but it doesnt seem to be going that way, because they spent I guess close to $100 million on negative ads on me already, and I guess based on the polls Im seeing, Im leading, and I havent started spending money yet.
At the same time that Trump was speaking on Fox, Fox News released a swing state poll that showed Trump losing:

This was the most Trump moment of the 2016 campaign. As Trump was claiming that he was winning the election, the very network he was speaking to released a poll showing him losing in two critical swing states.
Trump can continue to claim that he is winning, but the overwhelming amount of data coming out suggests that he is losing. Fox News just made Trump look like a fool, as the one consistency of the 2016 election continues to be that whatever can wrong, will go wrong for the Republican Party.
After eight years of Republican lies and obstruction, Karma is getting full payback on the GOP.

(4,762 posts)Polls are snapshots based on assumptions and models.
It is a dangerous habit to fall into selective belief in polls either to feel complacent or to feel panic.
Getting out the vote is what wins elections. Polls predict different levels of success at doing so. They do not predict election results as such.
It's just a bad idea to get cocky. Everything is going wrong for the GOP? All polls agree this race is close and will hinge on turnout and organization. Plenty has gone wrong for our side, including the FBI director calling out candidate careless and incompetent just last week.
Assume we are behind. Take no comfort even from good news.

He would looooove to talk about his fantastic policy, but mean Hillary is forcing him to attack her instead.

No.
Marist College conducted it and NBC paid for it.
That's the same with all media polls.
