once the savior of the world from tyranny and the Leader of the Free World, with the highest standards of education and living on the planet.

We never actually were all that good, but we were doing OK-- what happened to bring us down this low?

Unless you want to consider Mr. Dulles' handiwork in 1963 the actual end, of that America.

... That this is the uphill part of the bell curve doing the squawking. But damn, there sure are a lot of them. Seems like half of us, at least.

Were I a drinking man, and forced to speak or attend the Republican Convention tomorrow, I would fortify myself like the fortresses of Verdun.

The press smells blood in the water and there's no saving this thing now. I expect a good proportion of speakers and attendees will turn to the bottle to get through it.

And as soon as they do, it's going to get uglier than Bella Abzug's hat collection.

5. A thought on Michelle Obama's speech

I've been thinking about Melania Trump's plagiarized speech, which lifts two full paragraphs from Michelle's 2008 speech at the DNC.

First of all, the plan was obviously to give Mrs. Trump all the credit. She made the network rounds earlier in the day and claimed full credit for writing it. We can see people in the press trying to walk it back now, saying the speechwriter should be fired. But the speechwriter might just be Michelle Obama herself, which would be hilarious.

Here's something that everyone who has to work with the Trumps knows for sure: they don't pay. They are notorious for not paying if work is performed in advance, there are dozens of ongoing lawsuits over just that right now, and it would be unlikely that a speechwriter would be unaware of this.

So here is what I think happened: The ghost-writer penned a speech for Mrs. Trump, but turned in a poisoned first draft which cribbed from Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Romney, and which was malevolently signed with a Rick-roll.

The ghost-writer told the Trumps that a final draft would be turned in when payment was received, which is how one must play with the Trumps. They, in turn, looked at the draft, decided it was good enough, and stiffed the author.

And then they paid for it, all right.

It takes 3 days for the Sack of Shit to plunder the repuke convention and one day for him to get on Twitter to blame Hillary Clinton for the debacle.

The Republican Party is a peanut butter cup melting on the dashboard of a car, with a thin shell of evil desperately trying to contain the oozing stupid inside.

It's time to clean the dashboard, Republicans.

8. The Lies That Will Make America Great Again

TUESDAY: Republicans made full use of the backfire effect tonight. Paul Ryan's speech was a virtual mirror-image of reality, taking credit for President Obama's resuscitation of America's economy (in spite of the GOP ruining our credit rating), blaming Hillary Clinton for the FUBAR situation Republicans created in the Middle East, complaining about the frozen wages Ryan's Republicans voted to freeze a dozen times.

Criminal Chris Christie had a crowd of drooling Nazis pronounce Mrs. Clinton "guilty" for crimes the FBI says do not exist, and for a Republican-created world in flames.

Trump's son proclaimed Mrs. Clinton had a plan to "destroy Medicare"--by expanding it to include people aged 55 and up.

All of this mendacity is designed to poison the minds of uninformed voters, who will now default to the first falsehood they learned when someone like us is unwise enough to refute them.

This time, I think I'm going to try to laugh at the bullshit I hear and simply say, "what Republicans are best at is getting you closer to God, faster, and THAT will make America great again."
