It was Don Lemon and a colleague with a panel of guests. They started talking about it, specifically focusing on some unknown speechwriter who fucked up. They kept at it til that video clip was played - of Matt Lauer's interview with her, and it ended with the quote of the night (where she told him "I wrote it, with as little help as possible&quot and then they switched back to Don Lemon and friends. It was AMAZINGLY hilarious - Lemon and this fellow who was co-hosting with him SAT THERE. FROZEN. Gaping at the camera, utterly speechless, completely flummoxed, as though they couldn't believe what they just saw. They sat there in stunned silence for at least two or three beats before one of 'em finally spoke up and rather sheepishly said something like "well, all I have to say about that is 'no comment'."

I almost fell outta bed laughing!

It was freakin' CLASSIC!!!!

The UK website, Independent, ascribes the quote to "GOP consultant Nicole Wallace"

Ms Trump is known to be a reluctant political spouse, who had rarely surfaced on the campaign trail in recent months. That her most high-profile appearance to date should leave her mired in controversy will surely do little to encourage her to return to the stump. “This is what we were so afraid of,” GOP consultant Nicole Wallace told MSNBC, even suggesting that the Trumps’ “marriage is on the line” over the incident.

(from CNN)

Manafort said attacks on Trump's speech are due to Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, being "threatened" by Trump.

Ah, it's Hillary's fault that people are aware Mrs. Trump and her Team of Writers lifted phrases from Michelle Obama for her speech.

"This is once again an example of when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton, she seeks out to demean her and take her down. It's not going to work," he said.

This is blatant projection, because you can swap "Donald Trump" in place of "Hillary Clinton" in that sentence and it actually makes perfect sense.

Two things lead me to this conclusion, Laurian.

First, Donald Trump's previous wives have never said a negative thing about him in public. I believe the only bad thing first wife Ivanka ever said was in a legal proceeding where the transcript was released. So, while I know that the absence of evidence is not evidence, the circumstances imply that an NAD of some sort is in effect.

Second, everyone in Donald Trump's life signs an NDA. I think you'll agree that he's a control freak and he wouldn't have it any other way.

One other thought: imagine what the terms of the prenuptial agreement might be like! Aside from the curiosity factor, those terms would give a pretty good indication of how modest Mr. Trump's wealth really is.

Who would really have done that? Trump himself?

So Trump fires Manafort. Manafort produces a copy of the speech the way it was originally.

Either way, throwing the wife under the bus won't make the home front happy.

Staff should have vetted her speech over and over again in case changes were made. It's their job to prevent things like this.

The Trump Campaign™ has prided itself on its leanness. It's a bare-bones operation mostly because Mr. Trump hasn't raised nearly enough money. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they only have a few writers on staff who are overworked and possibly of limited experience.

Which brings me to a thought that keeps bothering me. The quotes from Mrs. Obama's speech are too accurate to have been mistakes. Were they done on purpose? Did the writer(s) want to sabotage the campaign knowing that the plagiarism would be found out? Or were the quotes the result of sloppy copy and paste work without editing or consideration of the source?

Either way, it's yet another example of how this candidate's campaign is not ready for prime time.

Tue Jul 19, 2016, 10:43 AM
Jul 2016

Someone in his circle did this to sabotage Trump. I doubt she wrote any of it. That paragraph sort of fits in speech terms - something is needed in the flow to make the connection between her life and then his. Read the speech without the lifted section, and it makes even less sense.

Here is a transcript of it. http://www.bustle.com/articles/173441-transcript-of-melania-trumps-rnc-speech-shows-a-side-of-her-america-has-yet-to-see

With Michelle's section, other than the fact that the lines don't ring true about Trump, it is a better speech.

This section was there all along. The professional speechwriters did not create a speech without a section doing this job, and have a complete novice find a section to lift that (other than the plagiarism and inaccuracy problem) fills the space perfectly.

Manafort is trying to save his own ass by going after Trump's wife. The Trumps are in a bind because she said she wrote it herself, so answering Manafort will be hard.

Amazing. Just amazing.

145. Corey Lewandowski on CNN saying Manaport should be fired for speech-gate
Tue Jul 19, 2016, 12:18 PM
Jul 2016

So the offensive creep Lewandoski, the guy who accused the female reporter he grabbed of being a crazy attention-seeker, the guy that Trump dumped in favor of Manaport, now wants Manaport fired for speech-gate nod forsyaing that Melania added the plagiarized lines herself.

The Trump campaign is such a cartoonish disaster -- Melania's speech plagiarized Michelle Obama's speech (ffs) and the scheduling was such a mess last night that Senator Joni Ernst, who was supposed to be a highlight of the night and an appeal to the women voters Trump desperately needs, was speaking to a nearly empty room (and no live coverage) since her speech was pushed back so late. And why did they plop that hysterical, rabid, venomous, washed-up maniac Guiliani right in the middle of prime time?! Any viewers tuning in to watch the convention would have been greeted by Guiliani's pinched, rat-like face, spitting all over the microphone (he needs to fix his teeth and/or fix his dentures as he can't speak without constantly spitting and slurping) screaming at them and telling them to be VERY VERY VERY AFRAID!!!

Now of course Trump and his campaign are pretending that there was nothing wrong with Melania's "speech." I also love that Christie the fat hypocrite said something so stupid, "well, it is mostly -- like 93% -- Melania's speech!" Hahahaha. I can just imagine what would have happened if I had tried that when I submitted my doctoral dissertation, "Well, it is 93% mine..."
