Democrats who skipped voting in 2012 and 2014 may need to

register to vote again before November.

In many states, skipping a presidential election or two general elections in row can lead to removal from the rolls of registered voters. There's a reason for that, and it's nothing sinister. Since voter registration is by local address for proper association with legislative districts and local elections, County Clerks and other registration officials remove people who do not vote from their rolls on a regular basis. This depends on the laws of each state, but it is designed to help prevent people from being registered in more than one location.

It has nothing to do with what party you're in. It has only to do with whether you are registered where you live. It affects Democratic, Republican and independent voters alike.

So, if you skipped voting in a general election or two, even in mid-term elections, you should check to make sure your voter registration is still valid. Otherwise, except in states that allow election day registration, such as Minnesota, you might be blocked from voting on election day.

Check with your local voter registration authority to make sure you will be able to vote in November. We must win this election.

matter how small or insignificant. I'm not a fair-weather voter, and I won't allow our group to be fair-weather voters, either. I press on them that it's their civic duty to participate in the election process.

registered. However, I've seen people on DU say that they didn't vote in 2014, and a few who didn't vote in 2012, for whatever reason. I hope they'll make sure they're registered to vote this year. That's why I posted.

I've also seen some people here claim that Democrats are being specifically removed from the voting rolls. That's not true, in almost all cases. Voter lists are purged as a matter of law in most states, to get rid of non-voters who may have moved or died. Everyone is affected, not just Democrats.

They sent you stuff in the mail all the time and made it very easy to vote absentee. I'm in New Hampshire now and I have to pay attention.
