Once it became clear Trump was going to be the nominee, she should have been mapping out her own platform and she should have watched every other convention speech given by prospective First Ladies. If she blames anyone else, it proves how monumentally unqualified she is.

(36,926 posts)Not many women could take him that long. Obviously she is very ethically challenged, college educated (NOPE), but Rump has got to be impossible to live with.

(58,724 posts)Everyone in politics has speechwriters that they trust for situations like this.
Hers screwed up.

(1,220 posts)They know better than to steal a speech and keep it so close to the original. They know that it will be found out if they don't make major changes, even if they do adopt the same theme. This was clearly done by an inexperienced person who was Googling previous convention wives speeches, and didn't realize how easily it could be traced back to the source. My guess is either Melania herself, or one of the 'kids' who seem to feel they can run a campaign without any experience.

(27,800 posts)If someone wrote the lines and she just repeated them, it still means that she didn't bother watching previous speeches given by Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, Ann Romney, Tipper Gore, etc. Isn't that kind of Politics 101 for a potential First Lady? It shows the extreme level of her intellectual laziness - and her husband's.

Just a guess and Im still enjoying the fact that she saw fit to filch from Mrs. Obama's speech. Of all people to steal from!!!

(27,800 posts)My sister-in-law came back once from a conference on international ethics, and talked about how some cultures consider that using other peoples' language and then adding to it is a form of compliment. We had a fascinating discussion that night.
Whether it's appropriate to apply that to a presidential convention is another matter, but it's a legitimate point.

(58,724 posts)I am just saying that she had no reason not to trust whoever wrote the speech for her to not plagiarize.
She is one of the least offensive people on Team Trump as far as I am conceded. There are some real nasty types on that campaign, moreso than even your typical Republicans.

(37,428 posts)There's no question of her actually having interest in or qualifications for being First Lady. She's just another Trump staffer, coping with contradictory or vague orders from the Donald, with varying degrees of success.
