2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI trust Hillary Clinton and her team to choose her vice presidential running mate
I like Elizabeth Warren, Sherrod Brown, Tom Perez, and Xavier Becerra in that order.
However I do not have access to the information Clinton and her team have. If I hire a lawyer I don't question his or her strategy and choice of co-counsel.
With that being said I would be flummoxed if she doesn't choose Tim Kaine.
He checks so many boxes
Comes from a swing state
Has a choirboy image
Speaks idiomatic Spanish
Belongs to a inner city black Catholic church
Has foreign policy experience
Has executive experience as a mayor and than governor.
I know there is a lot of noise about this being an outsider election but the Clinton team is betting the center holds and a plurality or majority of Americans won't choose crazy.
P.S. I don't dislike Tim Kaine. There aren't too many current Democrats I dislike !!!

(99,710 posts)Its not unusual, on an election-year Sunday, to find a white candidate in a black church. But Tim Kaine, swaying this month to the gospel groove at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in a poor Richmond neighborhood, wasnt on the campaign trail. He was taking a break from it at his home parish.
How you doing, brother? said Peter Thompson, 53, a lean black man in a green fedora, hugging the round-faced Kaine on the church steps.
The part-time Pizza Hut cook and the former governor have known each other since Kaine joined the church almost three decades ago. We helped start the Mens Group together, Thompson said.

(11,605 posts)I have my preferences and will be very disappointed with some of the people on the short list, but regardless of who appeals to me, I think it is important that she pick someone she wants as a partner. Some people might look great on paper but just not have the personal chemistry with her, and if that is the case they should not be picked.

(4,451 posts)Hillary is a genius. I know she will pick someone she knows we need to win and someone she can govern well with.
State the Obvious
(842 posts)He and Hillary worked together at the State Dept. His leadership qualities would reinforce Hillary's wish for a VP capable of assuming immediate responsibility in a crisis. In his TED Talk on global security, he mention "building bridges instead of walls".....an expression Hillary often uses. Check out his video.
He is from Florida AND speaks both Spanish and French. I think he would be a good match.
