(13,570 posts)Warren is wonderful and I love her. But she isn't ready for president and we need her in the Senate. She brings no new demographics and no new geography. Nor does she bring gender balance.
Kaine is the best pick. Kaine brings gender balance which is a reality, he brings a purple toss up state, TONS of experience so he's ready to be President if needed, and he speaks Spanish and has a great relationship with the Hispanic community. He is a GREAT choice.

(115,676 posts)What I've seen of him so far does not impress me at all.
Joe the Revelator
(14,915 posts)This was part of a longer post I made about my time working on his run for Lt. Governor:
The one thing that struck me about him was at a time when Virginia was leading the country in executions, he had no fear about stating that he did not agree with the death penalty and that VA should look into a moratorium. This was 00-01 and it just wasn't something that Virginia Democrats trying to take the Governor's mansion back openly said. I did not work in close proximity to him, as it was during a statewide run and I was working in tidewater, but anytime Mark Warner seemed too conservative for my tastes at the time, I always drew inspiration from Kaine.
He's always been upfront and honest about his personal feelings on abortion, and why he doesn't think that his personal opinions should be legislated, and position of his that I've always respected. That's the ultimate thing you can ask of a politican, to put the good of the country above his personal beliefs.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,676 posts)to become even less enthusiastic about the ticket than they are already. What does he have to offer? He's an uninspiring speaker; he was a terrible DNC chair (remember what happened in 2010?); he's basically just another boring old white guy. If the idea is to win over some of the old white guys who like Trump, I hardly think that will work. There are so many exciting candidates who would really add some spark to the campaign - why pick a stiff like Kaine?
Joe the Revelator
(14,915 posts)He's not going to be able to convince you. That position is way too close minded.

(45,319 posts)as reserved for straights only. He did so after having said he would veto it during his campaign. This does not suggest that he keeps his personal biases separate from his legislative agenda at all.
The Party needs to unload the anti gay baggage.

(15,220 posts)Yes, I know that Biden is Catholic, too, yada yada yada. But we need to be moving forward on social issues; not backwards, and I would prefer someone with the same stance on abortion rights as Hillary AND the party platform for 2016.
To me, Kaine conveys that the issue of choice is not all that important to the ticket. I was simply hoping for more.
This is my opinion and it's not worth arguing over. I will still be first in line to vote for Hillary.
StevieM
(10,500 posts)I thought Tom Vilsack was a much better choice.
I am even worried that we will lose the Senate seat in 2017 when the special election is held. We won't have two full years to get somebody situated in the seat because Virginia has statewide elections in odd-numbered years. We could lose both the Senate seat and the governor's seat in 2017, harkening memories of losing both senate seats and the governorships in Minnesota in 1978 and Tennessee in 1994.

(28,075 posts)you have to wonder if she really wants to be president. This is not going to help her with left leaning independents and she needs those votes.
Joe the Revelator
(14,915 posts)dflprincess
(28,075 posts)It's hard enough for left leaning party loyalists to vote for her (though the RNC was making the thought easier this week) but choosing Kaine has me back to thinking I'll need to take a clothespin into the voting booth with me and try to comfort myself by repeating "I'm voting against Trump" as I fill in the oval next to her name.
I think choice like this - which pretty much signals her move to the left was all for show - will push those who are on the fence either to not vote or to vote for Stein. (And to, be clear, I am not one of those.)

(72,790 posts)He should do well in that position if selected, although I think he is kind of a bore. It's not an "exciting pick" to me, but it's about getting a job done and winning an election. Kaine should help in both those areas.
