(12,809 posts)Hell, most Republicans think he DID say that, or at least acts like that. The "Anointed One" and all that malarkey.

(9,350 posts)You are right. President Obama never said anything like what Donald Trump said in his speech last night; however, Republican started the Messiah meme. I think the also started the sparkle pony meme in an attempt to mock all the things President Obam wanted to accomplish. In addition, there was the 2012 Mitt Romney RNC convention speech where Romney claimed President Obama thought he could slow the rising of the tides.
Also, imagine if President Obama had given such a doom and gloom speech at one of his conventions. If President Obama had spent a year, or more claiming America was not the greatest country on the planet Republicans would have likely called it treason and asked why he hated America. We lived through eight years of people being called traitors if they said anything negative about President Bush, America, or American foreign policy.

(4,113 posts)Obama said it in the context that the things we accomplish occur essentially because we accessed products and services built by others; rarely did anyone get to where they are totally by themselves.
But that didn't stop our local politicians from acting like Obama called every business owner a racist name or something.

(17,505 posts)Well, I still have and use a VCR.
There are all these great tapes of "Dance in America" that simply aren't on a disc.... or streamable.
I also got an all regions blue ray player. So much good stuff not in "region 1".

(81,220 posts)But their hearts are big enough to make some room for Hillary Clinton now, too. And for that, I'm very grateful. Thrilled to have him in the family, and grateful to his supporters as well!
We're gonna need all hands on deck to keep the White House in Democratic hands, and maybe flip the Senate. Every word Bernie will utter at the convention next week will be campaign gold.

(81,220 posts)EVERYBODY make sure you get out and vote!
And please plan to put even a bigger exclamation on that, looking ahead to 2018. We are blessed that year, even though it's a midterm election year, because Bernie himself will be running for reelection. He'll draw attention like nobody's business. Which will only help. After all, he's said many times that he wants that revolution, he wants more progressives running and getting elected (which, if we get a lot of them, and a lot of support for them, we could take back the House that year). And a President Hillary Clinton would need all the support behind her as can be drummed up!
Don't forget, the first midterm that President Obama faced, in 2010, and guess what happened then (when Democrats mostly skated or stayed home and didn't care that much)? We got the fucking teabaggers. The Tea Party arrived and has dug in like a tick on your leg from a long walk in the woods while wearing short pants. It was a DOUBLE-fuck because it was a census year, like we have every ten years, when a new census is taken, and Congressional districts are redrawn to conform to the changing population numbers. And with fewer Democrats showing up during that midterm election, the down-ticket results were disastrous, PARTICULARLY in the statehouses where we had an epidemic of CON governors getting elected. And they bring in their people, who get to supervise the results of the census - especially the redistricting part. Gerrymandered districts that favor aging whites automatically lock in some really reprehensible "representatives" who can then relax for the next decade's worth of Congressional elections because they're a lock to keep winning. Because the CONS have thoughtfully and strategically "tailored" their districts to their best advantage.
I'm glad that the next Presidential election cycle is on one of those "zero years" - 2020, when Democrats tend to turn out more. But even so, our side HAS TO get better during the midterms.

(24,695 posts)I have a big Tick in my leg and his name is (R) Andy Harris representing the Club for Growth agenda along the Eastern Shore, and was also backed by the Koch's and there "Dark Money" web, under the disguise of being 501(c) 3 and he is a Tick.
Yep, he is a Tick, and blood sucking one at that.
Take a real close look at who is representing you at the local, state and national level are they a TICK

(17,505 posts)..... that he says is supported by Hillary... is merely a tactic to make it seem Sanders' supporters are gonna vote for him instead.
No doubt many Hillary supporters will fall for it. But it's really an obvious, blatant tactic to divide the Dems as much as the Repugs are divided.

People who need a tax cut are not those who are raking in millions and millions each year, but the struggling middle class.
We have a situation now where Wall Street banks are not only too big to fail, they are too big to jail.
We need a pro-worker agenda, not an austerity agenda that will strangle the middle class of this country even more than it is hurting today.
He's on fire!
