(99,710 posts)The Twelfth Amendment states that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice President of the United States." Thus, to serve as vice president, an individual must: Be a natural-born U.S. citizen; Be at least 35 years old.

As far as Ben, eh, he's entitled to his opinion.

(44,096 posts)Yes, spouse who's watching just confirmed it.
She would make a good choice but for the fact she's ineligible. I guess I'll give justice the benefit of the doubt and assume he's not aware that she was born in Canada.

(29,699 posts)she was mentioned at one time for that. I don't know if you have to be American born for that.

(99,710 posts)There are no official qualifications for becoming a Supreme Court justice. The Constitution spells out age, citizenship and residency requirements for becoming president of the United States or a member of Congress but mentions no rules for joining the nation's highest court

(14,249 posts)He swore her in as governor and considers himself her surrogate father. She'd be a wonderful justice. She learned from the best.

(6,716 posts)Nina essentially admitted tonight that Hillary could have chosen Elizabeth Warren and that Hillary would still have to "prove herself" before she could support her. Hillary could get an undecided before she could get a Bernie surrogate at this point.
Ben also sat there and was angry that the Clinton campaign hasn't called and asked him for his endorsement, so he's not going to say anything until they do. Screw that.

(36,009 posts)Ben Jealous is out of touch with other outgroups' interests, which Kaine appeals to.
Kaine is definitely the guy who will make Hillary look progressive. He is the guy who will turn out the Latino vote.
He's Catholic, but is for Roe because he's for separation of church and state.
He will draw women from from the opposition, and he's had enough experience from city to state to be in the Senate and draw male progressives.
Not that the VP choice matters, but Kaine fits in Washington so much better than Pence.

(6,342 posts)To hold the office....no. But to become president, yes.
The Act states that when someone in the line of succession is not qualified, then it jumps to the next in line.
For example, if the Speaker of the House is not a natural born citizen or under 35, then it jumps him.
