I just streamed the Miami rally. I will admit I have been more than vocal for my enthusiasm to pick Elizabeth Warren as VP. Having said that, I was VERY RELUCTANT about Kaine. But, you know, I never heard him talk before. I didn't know much about him and should have been more open. And now that I have, I am so blown away by him.
It is NO WONDER he came highly recommended by both bill clinton and Barack Obama. Holy shit! This man is nothing short of amazing and all I could think of while he spoke is that he is the dagger right into the heart of the GOP. I could hear TAPS in the distance. This is the end of the republican party.
How can you not like this man? He is a tremendous speaker, with incredible experience, and lifelong integrity to help the vulnar able and less fortunate.
Hillary and Co are totally killing it. Change is coming. I AM SO EXCITED!!

(29,047 posts)I don't agree with him on everything, but I don't even agree with myself all the time.
What changes do you see coming?
AgadorSparticus
(7,963 posts)And that is fine with me.
As for changes, I think we have been slowly seeing it. I mean 10 yrs ago, I didn't think we would ever have the LGBT rights and acceptance that we do today. That is a pretty big shift in our collective thinking.
I think we will be a monumental time where we take the presidency, congress, and supreme court. I cant rememver the last time we had controlling interest of all 3 branches of the govt. This is the time where we can really roll up our sleeves, get to work, and affect the change we have been wanting for so long.
But with Hillary's administration, I see a change in paradigm. It is evident in her vetting and elevating Stravridis. He brings a different tone and approach that is MUCH needed on the international platform. We haven't had much of that. It was been all shock and awe and Stravridis understands the complexities of the middle east and knows how to balance soft and hard power. He clearly has the intellect and capabilities. But equally so, I see an integrity and conviction to his set of beliefs which is the direction we need to go to forward advancements in our fight against terrorism.
Now that I know a bit about Kaine, his pick makes complete sense to me besides the large strategic swing state that he brings to the election. He is the total package. His likability, easy approach demeanor, incredible speaking skills, and sharp intellect will serve him, the Hillary administration, and country well. Also, with Tim Kaine, I see him establishing and garnishing tremendous respect throughout the world. He will be a force for the Hillary administration.
He speaks spanish, SERVED as a missionary in Honduras for a year. That speaks VERY highly of him and I think will translate well to the latino population. People know the real deal when they see it. He is the real deal. He went to Honduras because of his convictions of doing good. Not because he wanted to be senator or governor or whatever. People know this. It is not lost on the population we want to capture.
I don't know who else will be part of her cabinet but it would not surprise me to see Warren, Perez and Hinkenlooper in the mix.
One thing I am learning is that it is easy to sit and wring our hands. That's because we don't have the Intel or inside scoop. But I am learning to trust the machine to put Hillary in place. And make no mistake, she has the very best of the best working for her. Her team is a machine. They know what they are doing. They must be in order to fight the powerful MSM. For her to be ahead despite all the shit they throw at her is nothing short of brilliance from her people. They are running this campaign like a machine.
So, in conclusion (hahaha. Sorry, it's so long), I think our political landscape is changing as we speak. And there is much more ahead to look forward to. The Republican party is fracturing and it is much needed. That level of greed and hate has to end. It always does. It will be exciting to see what replaces it.

(4,234 posts)can you keep track of any anomalies in vote counts when the voting machines are used, particularly in MA but all across the country?
This is not a lot to ask. Surely, in such a well-oiled and finely tuned machine, there is some computer expert, familiar with statistics (and remember the science of statistics deals with MATHEMATICAL FACTS), who can keep track of these anomalies, of which I feel absolutely sure there will be many in the final election which defy mathematical probability.
Hopefully, Hillary and Kaine will absolutely blow Trump out of the water and the Royal Privatized Counters of the Vote will be fearful of tilting the vote too far. But if it's a fairly close race you can rest assured that Trump, if the far right-wing owners of the voting machine companies inform him of what's up, will sure help them all he can to carry out and hide the cheat. He's been in bed with the mob his whole career. There's nothing he will not cheat at. NOTHING.
Remember all: WHEN THE VOTE IS COUNTED IN TOTAL SECRECY WITHOUT VERIFICATION, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A DEMOCRACY!!

(3,075 posts)but they would definitely do it to stop Hillary. it would be foolish to discount the danger. I live in Ohio and have been here before.

(31,781 posts)To "talk to the hand" last week?
I'm very interested in our Ohio Party members' opinions/predictions about Kasich during the G.E.
As an outsider looking in - he's no Chris Christie. Here we have our future Democratic Party nominee (Phil Murphy) demanding Christie step down. Christie is so hated that he has guaranteed NJ will not cast a substantial number of votes for TP.
There, you have a Governor who knows Trump is not qualified to be President and as of this posting has not endorsed him. I *think* he's running in 2020 on a slogan of "I Told You So."
Would he allow the shenanigans that occurred in 2004? He doesn't have to endorse Trump or dismiss Clinton - he just has to ensure everyone who wants to vote gets to vote , there are enough polling locations and the votes are counted accurately.
I feel better about Ohio voters - than I do in NJ. I'm seriously thinking of volunteering to work the polling location in my town.

Gonna be a love-feast compared to that 4-day dumpster fire in Cleveland last week.
Hillary, Tim, Liz, Bernie, Barack, etc. are all gonna CRUSH IT.

(45,380 posts)People who know about him, know that he's very liberal. People who don't know him, often make incorrect assumptions based on the fact that he's a white man from the south. Both of those qualities helps us.
And he has appeared on Spanish language TV having conversations in fluent Spanish. His roots are in the midwest and his dad was union iron worker. He's Catholic and has been a missionary in Honduras. He fought for fair housing practices for African Americans in the old confederate capital of Richmond. He's going to win Virginia for us. The list goes on.
auntpurl
(4,311 posts)As you say, the list goes on.
AgadorSparticus
(7,963 posts)He took a PAYCUT to leave more towards education in the state of Virginia. How many people do that???!?!!
The list does go on and on. He is pretty darn amazing! And I agree. He is our secret sauce (LOVE that!)! I can see where he is pretty liberal. I see him as totally grounded with stellar values and ideals. If people question that, I don't know what to say. The proof is in the pudding. Too often though, some people just get tunnel vision and refuse to see anything else. That's too bad. They are stuck on the rain drops and can't see the rainbow in front of them.
IronLionZion
(45,380 posts)tend to be intellectually curious enough to research a politician's record to find out. These types will be mostly happy with what they find.
The type who value moderates or white males or southerners, probably don't do that much research and believed the initial reports that he is a boring moderate Democrat from a historically red state. And they will also be happy voting based on their assumptions.
It's a win win for us.

(7,581 posts)But it's exactly what I expected from her. Sigh. I hate my choices this year. I have no choice, I get that, but I have zero enthusiasm for Hillary and this made it worse.
auntpurl
(4,311 posts)I really recommend watching it. He was not my first choice, but I am now fully on board with him. He has an inspiring life story full of public service, a good old fashioned Liberal Democrat, and he gave an amazing speech today.

(4,311 posts)He's said over and over he doesn't believe the abortion issue should be legislated. Joe Biden is also a Catholic who doesn't allow his personal beliefs to compromise his ability to do his job.
He is not anti gay rights. Look at his positions.
He's said already he will follow Hillary's lead on the TPP, which she opposes.
If you won't get to know him, if you can't open your mind enough to learn a little more about him, then why complain? You are closed off to knowledge. I think that's a shame.
adigal
(7,581 posts)Why be excited over someone who has to change so many positions to be acceptable? It doesn't make sense.
More I read about him, the more I realize we are going to get the same old shit we've been getting. 1/4 of American kids in poverty, war on the middle class, and no one gives a shit.
I'm beyond depressed.
auntpurl
(4,311 posts)Before today, I would have told you (and did say on DU many times) that my VP choices were Becerra, Brown, Booker, Perez, Warren, Kaine, Vilsack, in that order. Once I knew he was the choice, I spent my Friday night and Saturday reading about him, watching videos of his speeches and interviews, and listening to the several VA DUers who've had personal experience working with him (including one very strong Bernie supporter, Joe The Revelator, and Underpants, who I've known on this site for many years and trust his judgment). I educated myself because I'd accepted the common wisdom that he was a boring white guy. Now I know I was wrong. There is no shame for me admitting I was wrong. I am happy to be wrong because it means we have a strong ticket for the GE.
I'm suggesting you learn more about him, starting by watching the speech I embedded. If you can't even do that, it seems to me you're determined to stay depressed and angry about Hillary's campaign and this election in general.

How is he even a Democrat????? But let's all fall in line, right, like the good little programmed bots that we are.

(7,963 posts)His speech was a real eye opener. He is not your typical middle aged, white guy much less one with money or power. He is not a fake.
He is the real deal and a total package. His resume is quite inspirational and clearly impressive.
He is going to be as moderate or as liberal or as conservative as his boss.
IronLionZion
(45,380 posts)Many moderate voters will think he checks off enough boxes for them to vote Dem.
He's much more liberal than people think.

Watching Tim Kaine, I'm struck that he's great at skewering Trump while remaining genial. Destroying rivals pleasantly is a political art.

(7,963 posts)He is your genuine next door kind of guy who had a good moral compass. How people depict him is exactly how I picture him to be.
I like how that reporter asked how can he get elected in a district with mostly African American constituents? Because for a white guy, he's not very white. of cpurse, he also accomplished a lot too. This guy walks the walk.
I don't understand people calling him boring. That speech was anything but boring. He is a dynamic speaker who had the crowd eating out of his hands.
