2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo how many times will the WikiLeaks email story be posted this week?
It seems like primary time again.
I am not sure there is any there there but someone sure doesn't want us to unite around the Dem ticket.

(58,785 posts)wonderfully "clean" in general, with extremely little to be embarrassed over? And even the most embarrassing came from lower levels or state operatives and apparently died at the DNC.
As for unequal treatment of Bernie -- of course. The party's mandate is to elect Democrats, and he didn't only lose the "invisible primary," he lost huge. Initially not even ONE of his colleagues supported him, and he had arranged no funding. Yes, he surprised everyone, but that came much later. And even then, and now, quite aside from losing the primary by a large margin, he is believed to be a much weaker candidate for the general election. Most Americans know little or nothing about him, meaning the right could paint a whole toxic picture on that blank canvas -- and would.
There's a fundamental conflict between the real purpose parties are organized to fulfill -- get candidates from their party elected to as many offices as possible and the need to respect party members who support various candidates by respecting their candidate. Yes, there are wires to be walked here, as we see, but the notion by some on the left (never the right) that their party should actually somehow remain totally neutral and support every candidate who steps up for every office equally is incredibly clueless.
Btw, the Democratic Party had 14 candidates for president, not 5, and certainly not only 2. Somehow, in spite of these clueless ideas, I doubt Bernie or his supporters would have really wanted the party promoting them all equally, by just for one instance opening the debates to all.

(3,335 posts)Trump can say whatever bullshit he wants. We have a Press that is no longer willing to call him out on his lies in real time, even when they know that he is lying to their face. They seem to have become reliant on his ability to increase their ratings and are willing to accept him, hook, lies, and sinker. This country is doomed.

(6,829 posts)Top DNC staffer apologizes for email on Sanders religion
A top staffer at the Democratic National Committee has apologized after suggesting that the organization use Bernie Sanders religious beliefs against him in the Democratic primary.
One email among the thousands of internal DNC messages released this week by Wikileaks showed DNC CFO Brad Marshall questioning Sanders Jewish faith, and suggested that painting the candidate as an atheist could make several points difference in several late primary contests.
(snip)
In a copy of a Facebook post provided by a source, Marshall said that he deeply regrets his insensitive, emotional emails. His Facebook page, upon searching, is private, and the statement is the only content viewable to the public.
The entire Facebook post: I deeply regret that my insensitive, emotional emails would cause embarrassment to the DNC, the Chairwoman, and all of the staffers who worked hard to make the primary a fair and open process. The comments expressed do not reflect my beliefs nor do they reflect the beliefs of the DNC and its employees. I apologize to those I offended.

(9,148 posts)And Good Reads.
Somepne else had a penchant for Russia & Castro style governance once.
But that's all disappeared with the end of the Primary.
And we are over that misery and heading for the Dem Convention & all the disruptions & eruptions the week will bring. And yes, expect it.
Because in the end Clinton/Kaine will move on to lead this fine nation.
They will make their way through all the opponants throw in their path to the Whitehouse in 2017.
That is where we stand right now & that is all that matters.
Thank you

(934 posts)Here's what I'll be saying:
The DNC has a duty to protect the Democratic party. Devising countermeasures to blunt the slanderous attacks against the party by some Sanders surrogates is not the same thing as favoring the other candidate.
If the party's goal was to protect one candidate, the DNC would never have allowed a non-party member to join the party for the sole and expressed purpose of running for president.
The measures mentioned in the emails were never taken. The DNC never actually carried out any of the strategies discussed. Had this really been about "favoring one of the candidates", then the measures would have been taken. NOT employing what was discussed in the email is evidence that the party did not favor Clinton.

(7,004 posts)I did support letting the threads go because it is news. I'm learning from what they are saying. There have been good suggestions on how to answer any accusations.
Sunday night I would suggest DU mods lock the threads and archive so people can still read about it if they want.
Any new threads should be reported and deleted. jmho

(2,354 posts)whether it was "legal" or "illegal," the truth and facts matter.
If the whole democratic primary process was, in effect, a coronation, and not a fair and open measure of voters' preferences,
that matters to me.

(28,017 posts)Just like the email scandal, this could have been avoided, if only Hillary's team instructed DWS to behave. But instead, they applauded her uneven, biased approach.
Do you really think that a week before a state vote the DNC would have blocked Hillary from voting records and donor records? Hardly.
