The chief financial officer of the Democratic National Committee on Saturday apologized for the "insensitive" contents of an email leaked by the website WikiLeaks which appears to refer to Bernie Sanders.

The internal email from Brad Marshall was one of more than 19,000 emails from several officials in the Democratic National Committee released Friday by the website founded by Julian Assange. An email purportedly written by Marshall in May appears to refer to Sanders, but does not name him.

The email says "ask his belief. Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist."

6. Honestly, this is the job of the primary process. It is a preliminary vetting to see how

the candidates will play with the electorate. Obviously most of us could care less about a person's religion*, but it is certainly a factor with many voters. Clearly, if he had won the primary, it would have come up in the general election.

*As I was typing this, I realized that personally I would have a very hard time voting for someone who was a Scientologist or in certain sects of many mainstream religions including the Christian Identity Movement. So I guess there is always some bias.

9. This guy's Southern Baptist 'peeps' are also anti gay. Should gay baiting be allowed as well?

'Hey, my 'peeps' are a bunch of bigots, let's throw them some meat' is a sentiment that will destroy any hint of inclusion in this Party. It tells me they would do that exact same thing to any minority if it served them. I'm a Democrat and I'm supposed to be his peeps when he is acting officially, not some Church full of bigots. Who pays his salary? Not the Southern Baptist Convention.

11. Asking a candidate about their religion is not baiting. It is providing information that voters

clearly use. Like it or not, presidential candidates religions have always been an issue. I'm an atheist, so can't really speak for religious people, but those that I know, particularly Christians, tend to trust fellow Christians to be their leaders. I don't consider this bigotry in the same way that views opposing gays or ethnic groups are. It goes much more to perceived individual viewpoints, which may or may not be correct, but I think that charge can be made of most voters decisions. They all come down to personal preferences.

and apologize to the people who voted in this primary, they have tainted the process and this is the last thing you need with a candidate that's already very unpopular among the population.
Thankfully there is Trump who is possibly the worst presidential candidate of all time on the other side otherwise I'd be panicking.

It's really got less to do with being sorry about trying to pit southern mostly protestants against a Jew.

That's despicable.
