2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSomeone talk me off the ledge.
The RNC has the worst convention ever. His wife plagiarizes Michelle Obama. Ted Cruz goes rogue. Trump gives a speech sounding like the bad guy from Road Warrior. And after all that Hillary's up by like 2 points.
And now Putin hacks into DNC emails and manages to get the chairwoman to resign. And MSNBC has apparently decided to shoot their convention coverage in front of a Bernie or Bust protest.
WTF is going on here? We need to CRUSH Trump. This shouldn't be close.

We can either tell the media to kiss our collective Democratic ass based on how we act at the convention,
or we can do their bidding believing that we are doing our own. Our choice....

Media manipulation is what it's called. They've been doing this for years!

(2,280 posts)Why the fuck is MNSBC hosting their coverage in front of a Bernie or Bust protest? Why is Hillary only up by 2-3?
Look me up, yo. Until recently everyone was calling me a David Brock troll. I'm for Hillary. But I don't like this.

(1,048 posts)The media wants this. They need the storyline. They need the ratings. At the end of the day its still a business and ratings equals cash. They need a horse race. They need it close and will keep up that narrative for it to be so.

(9,944 posts)...we need your vote! The media wants a crisis convention - that's a given. Think about The Presidency, The Senate and The Supreme Court. It's going to be a fight - they are not going to make it easy.

(9,048 posts)There was a time when Trump was unacceptable to the vast majority and leading brands boycotted him. Now we have this fascist pig thrust down the throats of all Americans day after day and we are heading down a extremely dangerous path.

(11,197 posts)poll after poll after poll that showed Hillary to be a weak candidate against Trump. There were so many such polls that to now claim surprise that things "shouldn't be this close" is simply preposterous.

(53,016 posts)General elections are always close. So put out of your head that there was ever going to be a blowout. Our country is too divided. 80% of the population knows how they will vote before any candidates for party nominations are announced. The contest is always over the other 20%.
What matters is working hard to turn out votes. We all have to volunteer. That is essential. It's always the best way to channel your anxiety.

(25,428 posts)Don't bother with the polls until a couple of weeks after the conventions. That will eliminate most of the convention bumps and will be an indicator of the starting point of the campaign.
Also keep in mind that about 40% of the population is going to vote for Trump, regardless of what happens and consider that the benchmark. Also keep in mind that national polls are meaningless and the only thing that matters is the electoral college. Even now, it's still edge Hillary. Look at it again in about three weeks.
