as it says the slaves were hired, giving the wrong impression in that they were paid as opposed to their owners.

So idiots like Debi can't process this properly.

Hard pressed to find 'lies'. Easy to find them at RNC, I guess they don't want to be accused of bias.

You know, the ones who have to work because their parents are debilitated at age 30 because of their life conditions.

Many of those kids are their family's only source of income, but no worries, they'll be dead from some lung infection soon enough.

Eyeliner on!

I think you're being harsh on the lady.

Maybe she was comparing slaves with anyone who supplies goods or a service to Donald Trump....

No idea about the ones who built the White House.

Most of the stereotypes of how slaves lived involve large plantations. There were other slaves in urban settings whose lives were quite different. This was particularly the case for slaves who were skilled tradesmen such as blacksmiths, brick masons, and such. In places like Charleston, many slaves lived independently and conducted their trade on behalf of their master and received payments in turn through him. While these kinds of arrangements were not the norm, they were fairly common in the upper South where there were also more "free people of color".

Scholars like John Hope Franklin have discovered how complex the reality of the slave south and north.
