(8,612 posts)I think Pres Clinton should offer (and Sen Sanders should accept) a cabinet level post as ACA Czar. While we've been fiddling, Rome is burning. New challenges to ACA have arisen from the courts and the insurance companies. We need someone who is driven, feisty, unwielding, crusty and devoted to Universal Health Care. Ironically, Sanders can do more for health care as a cabinet level executive than he could ever thought of doing as Pres. Let him make our ACA more like Denmark's! Hill's attention will be diverted in a thousand different ways after inauguration; she needs a pit bull who can live, breath and concentrate on health care and health care only. What better way to preserve Obama's legacy, and get us to where we need to be with regard to Universal Health Care.

(58,785 posts)not as far as him, I really, really like what we got out of this rather abrasive synergy.
And I am tremendously grateful that Bernie taught political scientists and statisticians that they were not asking the right questions and were wrong, wrong, wrong about what the left wants and how much we want it, dreadfully undermining and sabotaging the power of liberalism and other leftist ideologies. Because of this new understanding, Hillary and the party are newly able and empowered to push their goals much farther.

This has put out in the public eye a set of guidelines on where our public policies should be, and who they should be helping.
It will serve as a very effective example of how future policies measure up, and whether they exceed the ideal, or fall short.

(13,776 posts)He's spent his entire life fighting hard and devotedly for progressive causes, long before he ever knew he'd be on the national stage. His beliefs and dedication are in his DNA.
And thanks to him, the Democratic party is finally differentiating itself, decisively, from politics as usual. Our party looks very different now, and is much more inclusive and much more decisively on the side of the working person, than it would have been without him.
He's shown that progressive causes can muster a lot of energy and enthusiasm.
He has really truly made a permanent difference. In that, his campaign succeeded beyond what I'm pretty sure were even his own wildest expectations.

(27 posts)Bernie has shown us that progressive values are American values. He's demonstrated that big money doesn't have to infect the nation's political system. He captured the hearts and minds of this nation's youth, our future.
I feel bad that Bernie will most likely never run a national campaign again. Sadly, the Civil Rights generation is passing the torch and we may never see someone again on a national scale like him who physically protested segregation inequities.
But that's the beauty of having nothing to lose - you can passionately advance what you have believed your entire life, what you believe is in the best interests of the country without playing political games. Maybe he didn't win this time, but when we finally have a public option, tuition-free public universities for low and moderate income families, a more democratic primary process, and othe progressive values, we will have Bernie to thank. He's such an inspiration.

(262 posts)Just think a few short months ago this man was shunned by the ESTABLISHMENT DEMS for not being a DEMOCRAT. After all the time he has spent on ideas that he proposes that are the most LIBERAL and PROGRESSIVE of any candidate in the history of our GREAT NATION!!! He didn't need to come out as a DEM but he did. Why because he believes in our nation and it's democracy so much he took it upon his self to change the status quo!! THANK YOU BERNIE SANDERS -- A TRUE PATRIOT!! Now his followers need to join him and endorse our candidate -- HILLARY CLINTON!!!

(262 posts)Just a few short months ago, the ESTABLISHMENT DEMS shunned Bernie by saying he isn't a true DEMOCRAT. After all the years this man has spent in Congress pushing LIBERAL and PROGRESSIVE ideas and caucusing with the DEMS -- SHAME ON YOU ESTABLISHMENT DEMS!!! Bernie didn't need to run as a DEMOCRAT but he did. Why? Bernie is a TRUE PATRIOT and believes in our great nation and the ideas of DEMOCRACY. That's enough for me, that's why I supported him with time, money and on line petitions. THANK YOU BERNIE for being our voice.... Now everyone that supports Bernie needs to endorse our next President just as Bernie did -- HILLARY CLINTON!!
THANKS BERNIE FOR YOUR NEVER TIRING EFFORTS to change the status quo... LET"S MAKE HILLARY OUR NEXT PRESIDENT GET TO WORK PEOPLE!!!

(2,145 posts)doing program Brunch with Bernie on the Thom Hartmann. It was so refreshing to regularly spoke common sense and was a progressive politician who understood regularly people and cared about them.
I started writing to him asking him to run months before the organizations began trying to influence him. I donated more money to his campaign than any other in the past.
I am pissed about the way the DNC treated him although I was not the least bit surprised.
I am grateful to him for giving me someone I believed in, to vote positively for, instead of voting for the lesser of two evils/
I really hope many of the people he energized and brought into a movement will continue to be active in politics, learn that politics is the art of , and vote for Hillary and hold her feet to the fire in order to gain the ideals that Bernie espoused.
This is just the beginning of a struggle that will last for years in order to turn back neoliberal policies and economics that have caused so much damage in this country.
People need to understand what Bernie was talking about when he said he wanted to begin a movement and people need to begin to understand the inside outside movement politics concept. We must take the DNC back from the neoliberals who have been running it since the late 80's. We need to build the 50 state Dem parties and begin to build farm teams that help young people start running at a local level and build their skills so they can run for higher office. WE need to take back those local governments, state house and governor's mansions across the country and we need to work on instant runoff voting so that we can begin to move away from the winner take all two party system.
Bernie changed the conversation and we need to keep talking to our neighbors about all of the important issues that he brought up.
