Bill will be First Gentleman and not President..

I know there are a couple of other ops on this..but I want to add a different perspective..

Hillary sets her policy.. not Bill

The Bill Clinton speech last night was a classic spousal speech.. given usually by women

I am finding it a little sexist that some in the media and elsewhere are having a problem with this..

Bill Clinton is not the candidate.. Hillary is.. She will talk to her policies.. It was his job, just as every spouse before him to support his spouse.. testify to how they view what their spouse who is the candidate stands for..

I saw a speech about Hillary. Starting from the day he knew her. It was all about what she did. Very supportive. It was not about him but when it had to be, about their wedding, having Chelsea, or the effect she had on him, which he meant in a supportive way.

I have a millennial son.. I am an older boomer.. and we both found it refreshing to have someone talk about her past and what she did..and how they started out like every other young couple.. My son said he was shocked.. he did not realize all the things she did, because he is in his late 20's and knows about her only through the prism of SOS and the Senator from NY..sorta..

about whom the same thing could be said. Mouths dropping open all around the room as everyone experienced multiple, "I had no idea!" moments.

Loved, loved, loved that speech and am so surprised I have seen it criticized as paternalistic or plodding/boring. I thought it was fantastic from start to finish.

The more I think about it.. the more it bothers me.. that somehow spouses who are women .. are praised for supporting their spouse..and the very first potential First Gentleman is supposed to weigh in on policy?? hmmmmm like she is not the person who is driving the car of being the candidate.. just very weird reaction I thought

He sounded exactly like a spouse supporting a significant other's candidacy which is precisely what he is.

Which is what the spouses do. He is the potential First Gentleman. His presidency is past. He's not trying to be president again.

I thought it was totally appropriate and exactly what was called for on this night when so many people were relating their personal stories about Hillary. You are absolutely correct: this should NOT have been about policies, his or hers.

His entire speech showed the love and respect he has for her, and his obviously deeply held belief that she is the best person for the job right now. No one else could have given us this narrative of her life journey, of her relentless search for ways to make things better in every situation she came across. It was a low key yet powerful look at the accomplished and brilliant lady behind the cartoon.

I have no doubt that many if not most people listening to him had "wow, I never knew that" moments. That was his job last night and he performed it brilliantly!
