'If the election were held today....'

MYTH: If the election were held today, Donald Trump could possibly win'

FACT: If the election were held today, Hillary would win because voters would NOW be laser-focused on the prospect of a Trump presidency.

We lost badly in 1972 because we appeared as "soft on defense."

Every day when we hear about another terrorist attack and Trump takes advantage of it - we lose.

I don't know whey anyone booed Panetta. You can bet that the Republicans will use this in their message.

I watched Panetta's speech on CNN and didn't notice any booing. Many cheers however. Different mic feed perhaps?

3. Leon Panetta Interrupted by 'No More War' Chants as He Blasts Trump at the Democratic Convention

Former CIA director and defense secretary Leon Panetta blasted Donald Trump over foreign policy tonight, calling a vote for him "deadly serious," but a faction of delegates tried to shout him down throughout his remarks.

Delegates from Oregon initially erupted, briefly interrupting his remarks by chanting "No More War!" Other groups around the arena began chanting "Hillary!" More chants of “Love Not War!” and "No More Drones!" broke out before being swallowed by "USA!" from most of the arena.

and you can hear the booing in the insert on the side

in the last week before the election. So many were so grateful we were finally going to be out of that quagmire, all the undecideds pulled the lever for Nixon--- along with a good number of disloyal, traitorous, war-hawk Democrats who didn't support our ticket for the reason you state.

Otherwise, McGovern probably still would have lost, but it wouldn't have been such a landslide. "Peace in Vietnam" turned it into a landslide, the real thing, as opposed to the words in a party platform.

I very much doubt Republicans are going to runs ads which say,
"You should vote for Trump, because Leon Panetta was booed
at the Democratic convention." That's just fucking silly.
It's nothing more than a convention footnote.

by terrorists. They already wondered why ISIL was not mentioned, at least in the first night.

Let's be honest: both Bill Clinton and Obama were elected when the economy was the main issue. Carville's famous "It is the economy, stupid."

Bush was re elected in 2004 because many claimed that "you don't replace the leader in the middle of a war."

For many, we are at war now and they like the bravado that comes from Trump's lips.

As Joe Klein observed, back in December:

Hillary Clinton Is Strong on Fighting ISIS — but Democrats Don’t Seem to Care

After criticizing Trump briefly, with a stray shot at Marco Rubio, Clinton went straight to questions. Dozens were asked. But there was not a single one about radical Islamic terrorism, not a single one about the need to rethink national security in an era when the jihadis have switched tactics and are attacking low-security targets—theaters and restaurants in Paris, Christmas parties in San Bernardino.

What were the questions about? Genetically modified food. Climate change. Gun control. Whether ExxonMobil suppressed information about carbon pollution. Voting rights. Mental health. Student loans. Immigration (family preservation, not border control). Preserving Social Security and Medicare. Taking care of veterans (with the assumption that veterans are victims of the military-industrial complex).

Now, some of these are important issues. But the Democrats’ unwillingness to think, or ask, about the single most immediate threat to our country was stunning—or perhaps, all too predictable. There is as little nuanced thought about national security among left-liberal Democrats as there is about border control among Trump supporters.

The booers were Hillary haters, who are generally disavowed by the Democratic Party. Repukes got nothing.

you give the halfwits in this country too much credit, and sorry, if it were today, 50/50 at best the country would dodge the bullet.
