2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOur first woman nominee Heckled...
and the most qualified person in history. There is an organized effort to heckler her.. People on twitter ( yes I know that is not very credible) are saying Nina Turner is organizing that effort. Will I be banned from DU if I say something bad about Nina?

(82,383 posts)Constructive criticism? Like she is not accomplishing anything.
Critics of Bernie are not allowed either.

(5,048 posts)Nina may still be a member of the Democratic Party though she has vowed she will not vote for the democratic candidate HRC this fall. I think that puts her in Skinner's "assholes" column.

(5,942 posts)why are they above criticism? This is democraticunderground not independentunderground.

(5,942 posts)Senate? I don't think there is anything incorrect about my title. I like Bernie and don't intend to bash him, but technically he is not a Democrat.

(11,605 posts)He is not, contrary to some accounts here, "leaving the party" or walking out in a huff. If he were he would not have stuck around in Philly after his part in the convention was done.

(44,116 posts)So I don't give a rats ass about his party affiliation.
Also please note explanation above, elected as independent serving out his term as an independent.
GumboYaYa
(5,942 posts)this is democraticunderground not indpendentunderground and if Bernie does anything other than support Hillary 100%, I think we should be free to criticize him. His supporters who will not vote for the Democratic nominee deserve absolute derision and should have no protection around here. That is just my opinion and I have exactly zero control over the actual rules, so my opinion is worth exactly nothing.

(44,116 posts)help us elect Democrats.
In my case I am a Democrat and I supported Bernie in the primary. Like the MAJORITY of Sanders primary supporters (both independents, greens, etc) I am supporting HRC in the GE.
You are correct, people who advocate voting third party are not welcome here. They won't last long either as that's against the sites TOS.
But people who vote for Democrats and have the same goals that we have are our friends and allies no matter what their party affiliation is.

(7,638 posts)He is a Independent senator from Vermont. He is no longer a primary candidate for the Democratic party. He is now subject to the same rules regarding supporting Democrats over independents as far as I am concerned. On DU I do not support independents, I plan on supporting any Democrat that opposes him if it happens. I do not read tea leaves and I have no reason to take him at his word about switching to the Democratic party for reelection.

(44,116 posts)However I find it an very odd and very counterproductive thing to do.
IMHO you are clinging to the bitterness of the primary wars and not embracing the happy fact that they are over.
We are all HRC supporters now, and that includes Senator Bernie Sanders.
Really great thread from Skinner that I want to share with you if you haven't seen it before:
The primary-season framing of "Hillary Supporters" vs "Bernie Supporters" is a thing of the past

On the other hand a lot more Bernie supporters are working within the process, and the party for progressive change, and according to the latest PEW survey, over 90% of Bernie supporters will be voting for Hillary

If she's encouraging the disparagement of our nominee, that puts her in the corner of Trump - she will be the blind, leading the stupid.

(2,638 posts)I was one of her biggest fans. Now she's one of my biggest disappointments. A vote for the Green Jill is a vote for Trump and Nina knows it and she knows her leadership will influence others to do the same. She's dead to me. She should be thrown out of the convention!

(840 posts)I'm sorry but if you can't support the nominee you don't deserve to speak at her convention. She can speak at Jill Steins in August and at Trump's swearing in in January. Since a vote for Jill stein is a vote for Trump.

(2,792 posts)In my opinion, she is not helping the progressive movement at this time. There is an effective way and an ineffective way to achieve one's political principles.
Everyone gets carried away by emotion from time to time, but emotion without foresight and reason isn't going to move the progressive ball forward.

I wonder if Sen. Sanders feels like he is watching his "movement" dissolve before his very eyes? There he is sitting in the cat bird seat at the convention center watching the disrupters draw shame on themselves and publicly drag his movement through the mud.
Before you jump in to chastise me - I know full well these are not typical Bernie supporters and I agree with that - but you know what? The M$M is referring to them all as "Sanders Supporters" and the media is not being kind to them in their reporting. It may not be fair but it's really putting one hell of a hit on his ambitions for a post election movement.

And the taunts, heckling, jeers and screams of these pissant protesters who want to shout down Democrats, will become a permanent reminder that the struggle still continues.
