True story: when I was 7, I told my aunt that I was going to be the first woman president.

She quickly tried to explain that it wasn't going to happen.

"Oh honey, no. Sure you can be President, but you have to be at least 35 before you can run, and, realistically at least 45 or 50 before you're really qualified. By the time you are old enough to be president, we will have had lots of women presidents. So you won't be the first."

Thus did my political ambition die. That was in1978.

Crushed at such a young age. At least she had a better opinion of America than what it lived up to.

If it makes you feel better, in 1978 I was going to be a Catholic priest or a rock n roll singer. I didn't have anyone crush my dream of being a priest however...that was puberty.

Ditto that with the priest thing.... I'm just not into young boys. Heyo! Sorry, sorry, sorry. I couldn't help myself. It wrote itself.

Thanks to her generation, a woman is on the verge of holding the highest office in the land.

But also scared we will make a terrible mistake. The years have made us both more cynical I guess. But I have believe we won't f*ck it up. Too much at stake.
